Northern Tier Sports Report
DANVILLE — Sullivan County used a big second half to top Lourds, 69-56, and punch their ticket to the District IV, Class A Boys Basketball Title game on Monday.

The Griffins led just 28-25 at the half but scored 41 second half points to pull away.

“Lourdes has been a tough match-up for us over the years,” said Sullivan coach Glenn Vaughan. “They are talented, tough, and well-coached. Our guys brought a lot of energy, enthusiasm, and focus tonight. I thought we executed our game plan very well.”

Tucker Blasi and Lucas King combined for 47 points - Blasi for 24, King for 23 - with Blasi also nabbing seven boards.

Colin King added seven points, 14 boards, five assists, and three steals, with Cayden Smithkors getting eight points, and five rebounds.

Jaiden Moore netted four points, as Dom Marotti chipped in with three.

Brighton Scicctano had 25 to lead Lourdes, with Trebor Moore chipping in with 17.

It was a fast paced first quarter as the Griffins raced out to a 21-16 lead behind nine points from Blasi - including two 3-balls - while Lucas King added six. Scicctano led Lourdes with 10 points.

The offenses came to a screeching halt in the second quarter, with Lourdes out scoring them 9-7 behind 3-pointers from Moore and Scicctano. Blasi had five of his team’s seven points.

The Griffins bounced back with a big third quarter, out scoring Lourdes 21-11 behind 10 from Lucas King, and six out of Blasi.

“The first few minutes of the third quarter were huge for us,” Vaughan said. “We took our 3-point lead, and pumped it to double digits.”

Lourdes rebounded with a 20-point fourth quarter, but Sullivan was able to match them with 20 points of their own - including a 9-for-14 performance from the free throw line.

Lucas King had seven to lead Sullivan in the frame, while Blasi added four.

“We showed so much mental toughness the rest of the way,” Vaughan said. “I’m proud of our guys.”

That sets up a date with the defending district champions, NP-Liberty, who edged out a 66-64 win over Meadowbrook Christian as a time, place, and date to be determined.
