WYOMING SEMINARY'S SPENCER, OF WYALUSING, CLAIMS NATIONAL PREP TITLE (February 24, 2026)
For Northern Tier Sports ReportBETHLEHEM - Wyatt Spencer, sophomore at Wyoming Seminary, delivered a commanding performance at the 2026 National Prep Wrestling Tournament at Lehigh University's Stabler Arena, securing the 120-pound championship with an impressive run through a highly competitive bracket.
Spencer opened his tournament in the 1st Round of 64 with a victory, pinning Peyton Friedman of Paul VI Catholic High School (VA) in just 34 seconds. He carried that momentum into the second Round of 32 where Spencer won again with a Fall in the first period over Payne Walker, freshman from Christian Brothers High School (TN). Spencer's third Round of 16 was against Nathan Matthis, freshman from Mount Saint Joseph (MD). Spencer clenched the win with a major decision of 16-3 and moved into the Quarterfinals. There he faced Julian Rios, a senior from Phillips Academy (MA). Spencer used creative counters to lock in another Fall over Rios in 1:58 to punch his ticket to the Semi-Finals.
It was in the Semis Spencer faced the #1 seed, Michael Batista, junior from Blair Academy (NJ). Spencer was winning 5-2 in the second period when he was able to lock in a cradle and win with a Fall in 2:57 clearing his path to the Finals. In his final match Spencer won with a 7-3 decision over Gabe Swann, a senior from Baylor School (TN) and claimed the 120 Pound National Prep Championship title.
Across six matches, Spencer recorded four falls, one major decision, and a championship-clinching decision, showcasing both explosiveness, composure, and determination throughout the tournament.
Spencer credits accomplishments to God for giving him strength and courage, guidance from his outstanding coaches, Will Weber, Pat Heck, Darrien Roberts, Joe Rovelli and Mike Tereska, the leadership and brotherhood of his captains and teammates, and the unwavering support of family and friends.
