SULLIVAN'S KAPEC STAYS ALIVE AT PIAA WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS (March 5, 2026)

HERSHEY — Sullivan County’s Andrew Kapec kept his state medal hopes alive as he went 1-1 at the first day of the PIAA, Class AA Wrestling Championships Thursday.

Kapec was tech called by McGuffey’s Lucas Barr, 16-1, in the first round, but then came back to beat Honesdale’s Justin Scanlon, 12-2, in the first round of consolations.

He gets Derry Area’s Camden Olson in the second round of consolations. Kapec needs two more wins to get on the podium.

In his opening match Barr got a pair of takedowns to go up 6-1 after the first two minutes. 

In the second he got a reversal, followed by a set of back points for a 12-1 lead.

Starting on top Barr got the final set of back points for the 15 point win.

In the consolation bout Kapec used a takedown with one second left in the opening period for a 3-0 lead.

He got a takedown, plus a penalty point off a figure four to go up 7-0, then began to open Scanlon up with back points to take an 11-0 lead.

Scanlon was able to get a reversal in the third, with Kapec getting out to finish on his feet for a 12-2 final.
