NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: TROY MAKES PROGRAM HISTORY WITH STATE WIN OVER CAMBRIA HEIGHTS (March 7, 2026)
Northern Tier Sports ReportPATTON — Troy girls basketball made program history by winning their first state game as they bested Cambria Heights, 42-31, during the first round of the PIAA Class AAA Girls Basketball Championships Friday.
“The girls always show 100 percent effort and grit, and I feel like they grew up tonight and finished the game like champions,” coach Steve Renzi said. “Back to work for Tuesday.”
The Trojans will get Trinity on Tuesday, who beat Martin Luther King 56-15, at a time, and place yet to be determined.
Troy led for most of the game, though Cambria Heights did lead early, and for a short period late in the third quarter.
The Trojans retook the lead just before the horn in the third and never looked back.
Giana Renzi had the hot hand on the night with 18 points, including a 3-for-4 performance from beyond the arc.
Kyah Renzo add 13 points to go with seven boards, and two steals as Haidyn Watson had six points, and six rebounds.
Emma Mickley notched three points, two blocks, and four boards with Izzy Renzi adding two points, and three rebounds.
Raelyn Woodward chipped in with two steals and seven boards.
Troy would jump out to a 13-8 lead after the opening quarter. Cambria battled back in the second, out scoring the Trojans 8-6 to make it a 19-14 game at the half.
The Trojans out scored them 10-9 in the third to keep the lead, then put the clamps on in the fourth, holding them to six points as they pulled out the win.
