NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: CANTON CONTINUES STRONG SEASONS IN 2025-2026 (March 8, 2026)

The Canton girls hoops team continued their string of successful seasons in 2025-2026 as they finished second in their division, while also hosting a playoff game for the second year in a row.

“Overall we had a very promising season,” said Canton coach Ryan Van Noy. “We finished the regular season at 17-5 and our final record was 17-7.  In six of our losses I felt like we played well enough defensively to win the game. We still need to work on some things offensively to take us to the next level. Losing in the first round of districts was tough for our program. When you get a taste of the state tournament it unintentionally becomes an expectation.”

The Warriors opened by winning the NPL Tournament. After a loss to Troy they won five straight, including close victories over NPM (34-28), Sullivan County (49-47), and NPL (43-35), the latter two to claim their own holiday tournament.

After a pair of tough league losses they went on a four game winning streak, including a win over Athens (31-25), the first in two generations.

That was followed by a close loss to Towanda, then came three more wins where their opponents didn’t score more than 20 points.

After a loss to NEB they ended the regular season with three more lopsided wins.

They lost to Troy in the opening round of the NTL Showcase, then fell in a heartbreaker to district runners-up Southern Columbia.

Junior Cailyn Van Noy led the team with 16.3 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 3.3 APG, and 4.7 SPG.

Stella Rockwell was second on the team in points (6.8 PPG), while adding 1.9 SPG, and 2.3 APG.

Alexis McRoberts hauled in a team high 7.8 RPG, while nabbing three steals per game, as Daveian Crowley grabbed 5.8 RPG, and had 1.4 SPG.

Danah Wesneski added 2.7 SPG and 2.0 APG, while Lydia Roupp averaged 5.9 PPG off the bench.

“We had three seniors that have done a lot for our program and will be dearly missed,” said Van Noy. “Emma McGhee, Daveian Crowley, and Alexis McRoberts were all big pieces to the recent success our program has had. We have a large junior class who will be seniors next year and get one more shot at this. They will return with some talented younger players. I know all of them with work like crazy to get better.”
