COLLEGE: TROY GRAD SEYMOUR QUALIFIES FOR NATIONALS WITH EIWA TITLE (March 9, 2026)

Lehigh was on the road as they traveled to American University for the 122nd EIWA Conference Championships. What is on the line for the wrestlers, just a trip to the national championship in Cleveland, Oh.
Coming into the conference championships, the allocations for each weight class is known going into the tournament. Troy’s Sheldon Seymour took to the mat as the number 1 seed and needing to place in the top 2 to qualify for the national championships.
Seymour opened his tournament day versus Teague Strobel of Hofstra. Seymour wasted no time putting points on the board. After the first period Seymour leading 13-2. Not needing much time in the second, Seymour secured the 4 near-fall points to secure the 17-2 technical fall in 2:36 to move onto the semifinals.
In the semifinals, Seymour faced James Garcia from Franklin & Marshall. Seymour again looking to put points on the board. Working to a 7-0 lead after the first period. Seymour chose the bottom position to start the second and earned the escape prior to getting the takedown and back points to win by a 15-0 technical fall in 4:14 to move to the finals.
With the semifinal win, Seymour secured his spot at the national tournament. Not finished Seymour took to the mat in the finals against Andrew Bini of Navy. These two met earlier in the year with Seymour coming out on top by a 5-2 decision. Seymour worked through the ties and put Bini to his back to take the 5-0 lead early in the first period. After an escape by Bini to cut the lead 5-1 prior to Seymour getting another takedown before giving up a late escape to take a 8-2 lead into the second. Seymour started the second period in the top position giving up an escape to make the lead 8-3 before getting another takedown and then a late set of back points to take a 15-3 lead into the third period. Choosing neutral in the third, Seymour working to secure the technical fall, however giving up a late takedown before getting his own escape to make the score 16-6. By adding the ride time point Seymour wins by major decision 17-7 to win the EIWA title.
With the win Seymour collected his second EIWA title and his second trip to the national wrestling championships. Seymour along with his teammates win the team title. A team title that just happened to be Lehigh’s 40th team title.
