NTL WRESTLING: YOUTHFUL TROY FINISHES STRONG IN 2025-2026 SEASON (March 12, 2026)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportIn his first year as head coach Troy’s Tony Carter wasn’t sure what he was going to have with a thin roster that featured just one senior. By the end of the season, though the Trojans could point to several successes.
“I feel like our entire team improved this season, and that’s all you could ever really ask for as a coach,” Carter said. “Since the first day of practice, our staff preached to the boys the importance of pushing themselves to get a little better every single day. Not only as a wrestler, but as a person. We can all do better at any facet of life, but only if we’re willing to dedicate our time and energy on improving. Wrestling isn’t an easy sport. It can challenge you in countless ways, but if you can push yourself through the adversity you’ve got a real good chance to experience success on the other side.”
The Trojans went 1-3 in their December dual meets, their one win 42-28 over NPL.
After taking a loss to Southern Columbia they nearly upset Athens (41-35), then went 2-4 at the Flynn Propane Duals.
A win over Wellsboro (47-15) sparked a 5-1 performance at the Battle on the Border Duals that guaranteed them a .500 record.
They fell to Canton to end the regular season, then lost 31-18 to Hughesville in district duals. They also two postseason dual losses against Jersey Shore and South Williamsport.
The Trojans had four make it out at the North Section Tournament with Hunter Watson and Keagan Kerr both coming in second.
They would have two NE Regional qualifiers in Garret Parks and Reed Palmer, with Palmer making it all the way to states in Hershey for the second time in his career.
Watson, Kerr, Parks, and Palmer will all be back next season to form a solid core for the 2026-2027 season.
“I’m excited about the future of Trojan Wrestling,” Carter said. “Our squad qualified for the District Dual Tournament for the first time in 5 years. We had a handful of boys see good post-season success. Four District Qualifiers, two Regional Qualifiers, and One State Qualifier. Not to mention we’ll return nearly every one of our boys next season. I can’t wait to see how good our team can be over the next few years. Especially, with the addition of our Eighth Grade class entering next year.”
