NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: WYALUSING GIRLS HOOPS HAS A STRONG 2025-2026 SEASON (March 22, 2026)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportWyalusing girls hoops put together another winning season on the court, including a home district playoff win.
“I’m really proud of this group,” said Wyalusing coach Nick Reynolds. “We played one of the toughest non league schedules in the league, and that challenged us every single night. I think that’s a big reason why we continued to improve as a program.”
The Rams went 13-9 during the regular season but had a rough December, as they went 3-5 thanks to a tough slate of games. They did beat NEB (58-43), along with Sayre (74-12) and Milton (57-53), while having hard fought losses to Shamokin (46-37), Tory (49-39), and Waverly (65-53).
They rung in the new year with four straight wins - Canton (43-32), Wellsboro (60-33), NPM (52-44), and Athens (41-26) - the final in front of their peers during the school day.
After a close loss to Towanda (41-26) they added two more wins over Williamson (63-23) and NPL (49-47).
They sandwiched a win over CV (73-17) between two losses, then ended the regular season 3-1 with victories over Wellsboro (62-21), NPM (53-49), and Athens (48-41).
Earning the seventh seed the Rams routed South Williamsport (54-31) at home before falling to Troy (47-33) in the district quarterfinals.
Wyalusing featured just one senior on the court, Treanna Nickeson, as Alissa Baldwin missed the year due to injury. Nickeson had been a key reason for this success this year, and years past.
“Treanna Nickeson was a huge part of that for us,” Reynolds said about her contribution to their program. “She took on the challenge of guarding the other team’s best player every night. She made it a goal to take charges and put herself in position to make tough plays, and she really set the tone for what we want defensively.”
They had the 1-2 punch of Alysha Botts and Emily Johns to lead the offense.
“Offensively, we had great balance,” Reynolds said. “Alysha Botts led us in scoring and was a consistent presence for us all season. Emily Johns averaged a double-double and impacted the game on both ends of the floor. She was really steady for us. We also had a freshman, Jenna Morningstar, who came in and made an immediate impact. She averaged 9.2 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, nearly a double-double, and did a great job protecting the rim alongside Emily. Those two gave us a strong presence inside.”
Liz Kilmer provided shooting, while Brinley Sterling gave the Rams a spark off the bench.
“We’re going to miss Treanna,” said Reynolds. “She’s been a leader for us and a big part of building this program. She set the defensive standard and the level of toughness we expect. She’ll definitely be missed. At the same time, we return the majority of our roster, and we have a strong incoming freshman class. That combination gives us a lot to be excited about moving forward.”
