NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: TROY MAKES HISTORY ON THE COURT (March 22, 2026)

It was a historically good season for Troy girls basketball as they repeated as NTL Large School and NTL Showcase champs, took third in the District IV tournament, and even won their program’s first state playoff game.

“This is the best girls team in Troy history,” Troy coach Steve Renzi said.

The Trojans went 19-3 during the regular season, not losing a game in 2026 until the district semifinals.

After opening with a loss to District IV power Central Columbia (46-33) they rattled off five straight wins - CV (60-23), Canton (43-22), NEB (51-36), Wyalusing (49-39), and Jersey Shore (41-36) - heading into the Elmira Tournament.

They went 1-2 there, opening with a loss to St. Mary’s (74-41), then beating Bishop Kearney (48-39), before falling in a close contest to Aquinas (55-49).

After that Troy went on a 13-game win streak to end the regular season, opening with a blow out win over Waverly (65-34).

They would sweep Towanda (46-18, 51-34), Athens (52-29, 45-19), NPM (61-29, 59-27), Wellsboro (45-16, 46-17), and finish off the sweep with Wyalusing (48-30).

They beat Canton and Towanda to claim the NTL Showcase, then opened the district playoffs with a win over Wyalusing.

They fell to defending state champions Loyalsock in the semifinals, but rally to beat Mt. Carmel in the bronze medal game.

The Trojans would top Cambria Heights on the road to open the state playoffs before falling to Trinity in the Sweet 16.

Kyah Renzo led the team at 12.8 PPG, 6.1 RPG, and 3.6 SPG while Giana Renzi averaged 10.7 PPG, 4.3 APG, and 2.7 SPG.

Raelyn Woodward put up 9.4 PPG, 6.0 RPG, and 1.9 SPG, with freshman Izzy Renzi averaging 6.1 PPG, 3.8 RPG, and 2.6 SPG.

Haidyn Watson stepped up off the bench to average 4.4 PPG, 4.9 RPG, and 1.3 SPG, while Emma Mickley put up 4.0 PPG, and 4.3 RPG.

Troy returns everybody next season, plus get a bumper crop of incoming freshmen to add to the mix, so the sky is the limit for 2026-2027.
