THE WEEK AHEAD: SPRING SPORTS HITS THE GROUND RUNNING (March 22, 2026)

Spring sports will get started in earnest this week, and the weather looks like it’ll cooperate, more or less.

BASEBALL
Monday, March 23

Sayre (0-1) at Wyalusing (0-1), 4:30 p.m.: This game has been postponed twice so maybe third time is the charm, with both teams getting losses in their season openers.

Sullivan County at NEB (0-1), 4:30 p.m.: The Panthers were competitive for much of the game in their loss against CV, a good sign as they welcome the Griffins.

Tuesday, March 24
Athens at Troy, 4:30 p.m.: The top two teams from a year ago as the Trojans open the season with the defending NTL Large School champions.

Towanda at Wyalusing (0-1), 4:30 p.m.: Towanda’s season opener against Athens was cancelled on Saturday so they’ll head south for their season opener.

Canton (1-0) at CV (1-0), 4:30 p.m.: Both teams came away with wins in their season openers, Canton against Sayre, and CV over NEB.

Williamson at NEB (0-1), 4:30 p.m.: A busy early slate for the Panthers with three games in four days.

Wednesday, March 25
Towanda at NP-Mansfield, 4:30 p.m.: The final game of the week for the Knights as they hit the road west.

Thursday, March 26
Wyalusing (0-1) at Troy, 4:30 p.m.: The Trojans have quite a few home games this first week as they welcome the Rams.

NEB (0-1) at Canton (1-0), 4:30 p.m.: These two scrimmaged a couple weeks ago, but this time it counts.

Saturday, March 28

NEB (0-1) at St. John Neumann, 11 a.m.: The Panthers’ fifth game in eight days as they come fast and furious early in the season.

Sullivan County at Troy, 3 p.m.: Troy has their third straight home game to open the season.

Canton (1-0) at Bucktail, 3 p.m.: The Warriors hit the road as they head south for a non-league contest.

SOFTBALL
Monday, March 23

Sullivan County at NEB, 4:30 p.m.: The season opener for the state runners-up as they welcome the Griffins.

Tuesday, March 24
Towanda (0-1) at Wyalusing, 4:30 p.m.: The Knights are coming off a tough loss to Athens as Wyalusing looks to open the season at home.

Athens (1-0) at Troy, 4:30 p.m.:
The Trojans get their shot at the defending league champions, who are coming off a win over Towanda on Saturday.

Canton (1-0) at CV, 4:30 p.m.: The new coaching staff for Canton got a win in their first outing as they hit the road to Westfield.

Williamson at NEB, 4:30 p.m.: Back to back games for the Panthers as this will be their league opener.

Wednesday, March 25
Towanda at NP-Liberty, 4:30 p.m.: The Knights head west for their back to back.

Thursday, March 26
Wyalusing at Troy, 4:30 p.m.: The Trojans stay home as they take on the Rams. The two teams split a year ago.

NEB at Canton (1-0), 4:30 p.m.: The Warriors welcome the state runners-up as NEB plays their third game in four days.

Friday, March 27
Troy at South Williamsport, 4:30 p.m.: The Trojans head south to take on the defending district champions.

Saturday, March 28
CV at NEB, 11 a.m.: The Panthers’ fourth game of the week is a tough one as they welcome the Indians.

Canton (1-0) at Bucktail, 3 p.m.: The Warriors head south to take on the Bucks for this Saturday afternoon contest.

TRACK & FIELD
Tuesday, March 24

Towanda, Williamson at Troy, 4 p.m.: The Trojans open the season at home against the Knights and Warriors.

NP-Mansfield, NEB, at Wyalusing, 4 p.m.: The Rams’ season opener as they take on the Tigers and Panthers.

Canton, Athens, Sayre at Wellsboro, 4 p.m.: A quad meet as Canton hits the road for their season opener.

BOYS’ TENNIS
Tuesday, March 24

Towanda (0-1) at NPL, 4 p.m.: The Knights hit the road for their second match of the year, coming off a tough 3-2 loss to Galeton.
