NTL SOFTBALL: TOWANDA TOPS NORTH PENN-LIBERTY (March 25, 2026)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportMANSFIELD — North Penn-Liberty welcomed Towanda for a large school match-up Wednesday and the Lady Black Knights downed the Lady Mounties, 4-2.
Towanda opened the scoring in their first at-bat as Maris Cobb drew a one out walk, stole second and advanced to third base on the throw down. Brooklyn Evans drove Cobb in with a single for a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the second, Leila Cobb walked and moved to second on a Molly Roberts sacrifice bunt and Kaylen Sluyter walked. Both runners advanced on passed balls and scored on a Payton Perry infield fly which was misplayed by the Lady Mounties, giving Towanda a 3-0 lead that would hold up until the bottom of the sixth.
Elaina Shaw singled for Liberty to lead off the sixth and after a line-out, advanced to second base on a bunt single off the bat of Addie Lehman. Madison Smith walked to load the bases before Julia Kaczynski singled to score Shaw and leave the bases loaded for Haley Litzelman.
Litzelman was hit by pitch to force Lehman home and the Mounties cut Towanda’s lead to 3-2.
Towanda hurler Leila Cobb got Liberty clean-up hitter Kameron Lightner to pop-out to Maris Cobb in front of second base and Cobb gunned Smith down trying to score to end the inning.
The Knights added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Taylor Aquilio walked, stole second and moved to third on the throw down and eventually scored on a passed ball.
Leila Cobb induced a fly-out in Liberty’s last at-bat for the first out and struck out two Mounties to seal the win.
Leila Cobb went all seven innings for Towanda to get the win, allowing two earned runs on four Mountie hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts.
Evans had both of Towanda’s base hits and added an RBI while Sluyter and Aquilio each scored a run.
Elyna Booth took the loss for NPL, going all seven innings and giving up four runs .. one earned .. on two hits and five walks with six K’s.
Shaw had two hits and scored a run for the Lady Mounties, Kaczynski had a hit and an RBI, Lehman had a hit and a run scored and Litzelman had an RBI.
Towanda (2-1) is scheduled to visit Wellsboro on Tuesday, while North Penn-Liberty )1-1) is at Wyalusing on Monday.
