NTL BASEBALL: TOWANDA USES KEY HITS TO DOWN CANTON (April 8, 2026)

Northern Tier Sports Report
CANTON — Towanda baseball made the most of Canton errors and got out of a few jams as they topped the Warriors, 7-3, during NTL action Wednesday.

The Knights made it 7-1 with two runs in the fifth. Canton rallied in the sixth with two runs, but couldn’t get any closer.

All told the Warriors left 11 on base for the game.

Lucas Vincent (1-for-2) had 2-RBI with two runs scored, as Hudson Stevens (1-for-3) also drove in two runs.

Gage Evans (1-for-2) scored three times, with Boom Thompson (1-for-4) and Harper Welles also crossing home. Avery Butts (1-for-4) had a hit.

On the mound Butts got the win, going four innings with four strikeouts, three walks, four hits, and one earned runs.

Shane Maghamez went the next inning with one strikeout, no walks, one hit, and two earned runs.

Brad Assante came on for the save, going the final two innings with three strikeouts, one walk, and two hits.

For Canton Bailey Gardner (2-for-3) had a double with 2-RBI as Lucas Crawley (2-for-3) scored, and drove in a run. Trapper Burr (2-for-4) and Isaiah Colton (2-for-3) both had multi-hit games as well.

Rylan Wesneski (1-for-3), and Carson Castle both scored, as Reed Taylor (1-for-4) had a hit.

It was pitching by committee again for Canton as five different hurlers made the trip to the mound.

Daniel Inman started, and went four innings with five strikeouts, one walk, five hits, and five runs, two of which were earned.

Wesneski came on but left after walking two batters, and taking two earned runs.

Gardner tossed an inning with one strikeout, one hit, no walks, and no runs, while Taylor went 1 1/3-innings with one strikeout, one walk, and one hit but no runs.

Grant Jennings pitched the final two-thirds with one strikeout.

Thompson opened up the game with a hit, followed by Evans drawing a walk. Thompson then scored an error for a 1-0 lead.

After two outs Evans would score on a passed ball to make it 2-0.

For Canton’s second inning run Castle led off the inning with a walk, then scored on a 2-out single from Crawley.

In the third Wells led off with a hit, then two batters later Evans put two with a single. After an Evans single Vincent brought them both in, then scored on an error for the 5-0 lead.

Canton had bases loaded in the third and fourth but couldn’t push any runners across.

In the fifth Evans and Vincent drew back to back walks, then scored on a 2-out single from Stevens to push their lead to 7-1.

Wesneski led off the sixth with a hit, followed by Crawley getting beaned to reach. A hit from Colton loaded the bases.

After an out Gardner doubled in Wesneski and Crawley for a 7-3 score but Towanda ended the rally after that.

Towanda (2-3) is at NEB on Thursday, while Canton (2-4) welcomes NP-Mansfield.
