NTL BASEBALL: TOWANDA TOPS NEB TO EVEN UP THEIR RECORD (April 9, 2026)
Northern Tier Sports ReportROME — Towanda defeated NEB, 8-3, to win their third straight baseball game during NTL action Thursday.
“Coming into the week we had a couple hard luck losses to start the year so our theme for the week was lets get back to .500 and take care of business this week, which we did,” said Towanda coach Karl Raffin. “I’m really happy about that.”
The Knights led 3-1 after one, but the Panthers scored two in the bottom half of the second to knot the game up at 3-all.
It stayed that way until the fifth when Towanda pushed three more across, then added two insurance runs in the sixth.
Towanda’s Brad Assante (3-for-4) had an RBI while Harper Welles (2-for-4) scored twice. Hagen Jones (2-for-4) knocked in a run, as Avery Butts (1-for-4) had a double with 3-RBI, and a run scored.
Gage Evans (1-for-3) scored and drove in a run, as Lucas Vincent, and Boom Thompson both scored twice.
Jason Wickwire (1-for-3) also had a hit.
Vincent started, and went 5 2/3-innings for the win, striking out nine with six walks, two hits, and three runs, two of which were earned.
Shane Maghamez tossed the final 1 1/3-innings with two strikeouts, two hits, and no runs or walks.
Kohen Hugo (1-for-3) had 2-RBI with a run scored to lead NEB as Nate Gross (1-for-4) drove in a run.
William Chappell (1-for-3) and Wes Alderfer both scored, as Anthony Johnson (1-for-4) had a hit.
Kohen Hugo started and went 5 2/3-innings with eight strikeouts, three walks, nine hits, and eight runs scored, three of which were earned.
Cooper Hugo tossed one third of an inning, getting a strikeout. Gross went the final inning, striking out one with one hit.
In the first Thompson reached on an error, then two batters later Vincent drew a walk. Thompson then scored on a ground out for a 1-0 Knight lead.
After a walk to Evans Assante singled in Vincent, then Jones brought in Evans to make it 3-0.
In the bottom half of the inning Kohen Hugo and Cooper Hugo drew back to back 1-out walks, with Kohen scoring on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Gross.
In the bottom of the second NEB went with two outs as Alderfer drew a walk, followed by Chappell singling. A 2-out hit from Kohen Hugo brought them around for a 3-3 game.
In the top of the fifth Welles led off with a hit, followed by Vincent drawing a walk. That set up Butts’ 2-run double. Evans then singled in Butts for a 6-3 lead.
In the sixth Thompson reached on an error, followed by Welles getting a hit. A balk allowed Thompson to score, with Welles scoring on an error off the bat of Butts.
Towanda (3-3) faces Troy on Wednesday, while NEB (4-3) travels to Athens on Saturday.
