NTL SOFTBALL: COBB TOSSES 1-HIT SHUTOUT AS TOWANDA DOWNS WYALUSING (April 16, 2026)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWYSOX — Towanda softball stayed hot as the weather on Thursday, picking up an 8-0 win over Wyalusing during NTL action.
Leila Cobb fanned 14 as she tossed a 1-hitter for the Knights with Caedence Wells (2-for-4) hitting a home run during a 4-RBI day.
“The momentum is on a roll,” said Towanda coach Dean Johnson. “We’re playing really well right now, I love everything that we’re doing right now.”
Brooklyn Evans (1-for-2) and Maris Cobb (1-for-3) both scored twice, and had an RBI, with Evans also getting a double.
Brynsen Vargason (1-for-1) scored twice with Payton Perry (1-for-4) also crossing home. Leila Cobb (1-for-3) had an RBI, with Hannah Crawford (1-for-3) getting a hit.
Cobb allowed one walk during the shutout.
Josie Ferris (1-for-2) had a double for Wyalusing’s hit as Addison Fluck struck out six in the loss, allowing seven hits, five walks, and eight runs.
Towanda was able to score with two outs in the bottom of the first as Evans and Vargason drew back to back walks. A Wells hit brought in Evans for the 1-0 lead.
Leila Cobb kept it going as she singled in Vargason for the 2-0 advantage early.
“When we can get a lead I think it makes them feel comfortable,” said Johnson. “They just feel comfortable in the game and it goes pretty smooth.”
In the third Maris Cobb was hit by a pitch to lead things off, then scored on an Evans double. Vargason would draw a walk setting up Wells’ first pitch home run over center field to make it a 6-0 ball game.
In the fourth Perry led off with a hit, then scored on an a Maris Cobb ground out to make it 7-0.
Towanda’s final run came in the sixth as Maris Cobb singled, then scored on a passed ball for the 8-0 final.
Wyalusing (7-4) has a big match-up with District IV, Class AA leader Northwest (6-0) on Friday while Towanda (7-1) is at South Williamsport on Monday.
