NTL SOFTBALL: REED POWERS TROY PAST WELLSBORO (April 17, 2026)
Northern Tier Sports ReportEAST TROY — Lauren Reed had a career game as Troy got a measure of revenge against Wellsboro, winning in an 8-7 9-inning walk-off over the Hornets during NTL softball action Friday.
Wellsboro walked off Troy in their first meeting, but this time Reed came up with the clutch hit in the bottom of the ninth to get the win.
“It feels great,” said Troy coach Sadie Hardy. “We struggled a lot with defense during the game, but we hung in there. We stuck with it, we battled as a team, and we came up big when we needed it, so it feels great.”
The Trojans had eight errors in the game, but out hit Wellsboro 10-8, including four multiple base hits.
Reed led the way, going 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, 5-RBI, and two runs scored, as Erin Knapp (2-for-4) had a triple, 2-RBI, and a run scored.
“Lauren Reed is swinging the bat extremely well,” remarked Hardy. “She’s making very good contact, and she’s going to have a lot of big hits.”
Izzy Renzi (3-for-5) scored twice and drove in a run, with Haidyn Watson (1-for-2) scoring three times.
Delaney Kendall and Danielle Roy both scored as Maddyson Muir (1-for-4) had a hit.
Knapp got the win, striking out nine with two walks, eight hits, and seven runs, two of which were earned, in all nine innings as she threw 136 pitches.
Ady Frantz for Wellsboro struck out 16 in 8 1/3-innings of work in the loss.
Wellsboro led 4-0 midway through the fourth with one run in each of the first and third innings, then tacked on two in the top of the fourth.
“I told them they were going to have to dig deep,” Hardy said. “This game was going to take everything we had. We couldn’t give up, we’ve come back from more than the deficit so they just had to stay in it.”
Troy got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Nobody scored again until the sixth when the Trojans out scored Wellsboro 3-1.
In the seventh the Hornets put up two more in the to half, but Troy rallied with three in the bottom half to get extra softball.
After a scoreless eighth Troy got the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
Watson would single in the fourth, then scored on a Knapp’s 2-out triple to get Troy on the scoreboard.
Renzi would lead off the sixth with a hit, then scored on an error off a Watson bunt for a 5-2 game.
Reed doubled to keep the rally going, then Knapp brought her home on a hit. After a Muir single Knapp would score on a wild pitch for a 1-run game.
In the seventh Roy was hit by a pitch with 1-out, then scored on a Renzi single.
With two outs Watson drew a walk, then Reed hit an 0-1 pitch for an inside the park home run into right field to knot things up at 7-all.
Wellsboro threatened in the top of the eighth with two runners on and one out, but Troy picked off one base runner, then got a ground out to get out of the jam.
After that it was six straight outs until the bottom of the ninth when Aleiyah Kutt was hit by a pitch to lead things off.
After an out Renzi singled, with Wellsboro intentionally walking Watson. That set up Reed’s game winning hit that scored Kendall, who was running for Kutt.
