THE WEEK AHEAD: A BIG WEEK FOR AREA TEAMS AS WE END APRIL (April 19, 2026)
Northern Tier Sports ReportIt’ll be a wacky week of weather as winter returns (briefly) followed by big swings in temperature - in essence, July is gone and April is back. That means plenty of divisional contests on the diamond, Wyalusing hosts their annual Lasagna Invitational, and Towanda boys’ tennis wraps up their regular season.
BASEBALLMonday, April 20Towanda (4-3) at South Williamsport (5-4), 4:30 p.m.: The Knights are riding a 4-game win streak with South coming off an 8-5 loss to Warrior Run.
Troy (5-4) at Williamson (1-7), 4:30 p.m.: The Trojans split at the Shamokin tournament over the weekend as the Warriors look to break a 6-game losing streak.
Sayre (1-9) at Wyalusing (2-7), 4:30 p.m.: The Rams come in on a 2-game losing streak while Sayre has lost the last eight contests.
Tuesday, April 21Canton (4-6) at NEB (6-5), 4:30 p.m.: The Warriors lost a heartbreaker in extra innings to Millville over the weekend, while the Panthers come in on a 2-game winning streak.
Troy (5-4) at Wyalusing (2-7), 4:30 p.m.: The Trojans hit the road to Wyalusing in back to backs for both squads.
NP-Mansfield (3-6) at Towanda (4-3), 4:30 p.m.: The back to back for the Knights as they welcome the Tigers for this NTL tilt. NPM is coming off a close loss to Wellsboro while Towanda just beat Wyalusing.
Thursday, April 23Towanda (4-3) at Wellsboro (6-2), 4:30 p.m.: The third game in four days for the Knights who take on a Hornets team that has won three straight.
NP-Mansfield (3-6) at Troy (5-4), 4:30 p.m.: The first one was a thriller to the end as the Trojans return home after four straight road games.
Athens (7-1) at Wyalusing (2-7), 4:30 p.m.: The Rams get the league leaders for their third game in four days.
Friday, April 25Wellsboro (6-2) at Towanda (4-3), 4:30 p.m.: A make-up from earlier in the year as these two will play back to back divisional games, and it’ll be Towanda’s fourth game of the week.
Athens (7-1) at Troy (5-4), 4:30 p.m.: The Trojans face the league leaders in a make-up from earlier in the year for their fourth game in five days.
Wyalusing (2-7) at Wyoming Semiary, 4:30 p.m.: The Rams hit the road to this District-II team.
South Williamsport (5-4) at Canton (4-6), 4:30 p.m.: The Warriors end the week by welcoming the Mounties.
Saturday, April 25NEB hosts Tournament: The tournament will feature NEB, Sugar Valley Rural Charter, Benton, and Susquehanna. NEB and Sugar Valley play at 10, Benton and Susquehanna play at noon, the consolation game is at 2 p.m., with the championship slated for 4 p.m.
SOFTBALLMonday, April 20Towanda (7-1) at South Williamsport (0-6), 4:30 p.m.: It’s been go of it for the defending district champion Mounties as the Knights come in on a 7-game win streak.
Tuesday, April 21NP-Liberty (8-2) at Towanda (7-1), 4:30 p.m.: A big one for the NTL Large School title, as the Mounties have just two league losses to Towanda’s one. Towanda beat them 4-2 in their first meeting.
Troy (4-5) at Wyalusing (7-5), 4:30 p.m.: The Rams come in on a 3-game losing streak while the Trojans are coming off a tough loss at Midd-West.
Canton (3-6) at NEB (3-9), 4:30 p.m.: The Warriors are coming off a big win over Millville, while NEB is looking to break a 6-game losing streak.
Thursday, April 23Towanda (7-1) at Wellsboro (5-6), 4:30 p.m.: The first game was a 2-0 thriller in Towanda’s favor as the Hornets make a playoff push.
NP-Liberty (8-2) at Troy (4-5), 4:30 p.m.: The tough week continues for Troy as they welcome the Mounties, who have won seven straight.
Athens (6-1) at Wyalusing (7-5), 4:30 p.m.: The Rams get their second shot at Athens after falling 5-1 the first time.
Friday, April 24Athens (6-1) at Troy (4-5), 4:30 p.m.: Troy’s third game in four days - all of them teams that are above .500 - as the Wildcats look to capture another league title.
Saturday, April 25South Williamsport (0-6) at NEB (3-9), 11 a.m.: The two defending district champions for Class A and AA will face-off.
Wellsboro (5-6) at Canton (3-6), 1 p.m.: The Warriors end the week by hosting the Hornets for a make-up.

Tuesday, April 21Sayre, Wyalusing at Towanda, 4 p.m.: The Knights play host to the Rams and Redskins to open the week.
Troy, NEB, Williamson at Athens, 4 p.m.: The Trojans and Panthers head to the valley for quad meet action.
NP-Mansfield, Wellsboro at Canton, 4 p.m.: The Warriors play host to these two Tioga County foes.
Friday, April 24Towanda, Canton, Troy, NEB at Wyalusing’s Lasagna Invitational: Will feature some of the top teams from District IV and District II, along with Waverly from New York.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Monday, April 20Towanda (2-7) at South Williamsport (8-3), 4 p.m.: The Knights hit the road as Bayley Poll puts his undefeated record on the line against the Mounties.
Tuesday, April 21Towanda (2-7) at Wellsboro (10-3), 4 p.m.: The Knights face the defending league champs, who beat them 4-1 last time.
Thursday, April 23Lake-Lehman at Towanda, 4 p.m.: The Knights welcome this D-2 opponent for a non-league match.
Friday, April 24NP-Liberty (2-7) at Towanda (2-7), 4 p.m.: The final home match of the season for Towanda as they face off with the Mounties.
