NTL SOFTBALL: WELLS, TOWANDA STAY HOT AS THEY ROLL PAST SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT (April 20, 2026)

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT — Caedence Wells continued to have the hot bat as Towanda shook off a slow start to beat South Williamsport 17-4 in five innings during non-league softball action Monday.

Wells (3-for-3) had a home run with two doubles to go with 3-RBI for the Knights as they overcame a 3-1 deficit in the first inning.

Towanda poured in seven runs in the top of the second, then out score the Mounties 4-1 in the third. The Knights added four more runs in the fourth, and one more in the fifth to get the win.

Payton Perry (3-for-5) had 3-RBI with two runs scored, as Brynsen Vargason (2-for-3) had a home run, with 4-RBI, and three runs scored.

Hannah Crawford (2-for-2) had two doubles with a run scored, while Brooklyn Evans (1-for-2) had a double with 2-RBI, and two runs scored.

Maris Cobb (1-for-3) scored four times, with Kaylen Sluyter (1-for-3) scoring while driving in a run.

Molly Roberts (1-for-2) also scored.

Leila Cobb went the first three innings with six strikeouts, three walks, no hits, and four unearned runs. Vargason tossed the final inning, fanning all three batters she faced.

In the top of the first Maris Cobb would reach on an error followed by Evans drawing a walk. Cobb would later score on a wild pitch for the 1-0 lead.

South used a walk followed by back to back errors to take the 2-run lead after the first inning.

Roberts led off the second with a hit, then Crawford rocked a double. That set up Sluyter driving in Roberts for a 3-2 game.

Perry would bring in Crawford and Sluyter for a 4-3 ball game, followed by Perry scoring on an error off the bat of Maris Cobb.

An Evans ground out allowed Maris Cobb to score for a 6-3 game.

Vargason drew a walk to restart the rally, then Wells took her first offering over the left field fence for an 8-3 game.

Maris Cobb would get things started in the second as she was hit by a pitch, then scored on an Evans double.

A Vargason single brought in Evans, followed by a Wells double driving in Vargason.

Sadie Overpeck would come in to run for Wells and would score on a steal of home for a 12-3 lead.

The Knights would rally with two outs in the fourth as Perry and Maris Cobb had back to back hits. Perry would score on a wild pitch for a 13-4 game.

Evans would draw a walk setting up Vargason taking an 0-1 pitch over the right field fence for a 16-4 ball game.

In the final inning Taylor Aquilio would draw a lead-off walk, followed by Crawford hitting a double. Sluyter then drew a walk to load the bases.

A Perry single would score Alyllah Beachey for their final run.

Towanda (8-1) welcomes NP-Liberty on Tuesday.
