NTL SOFTBALL: TOWANDA FALLS TO NPL IN PITCHER'S DUEL (April 21, 2206)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WYSOX — Despite out hitting NP-Liberty Towanda fell 1-0 to the Mounties during NTL softball pitcher’s duel Tuesday.

The Knights had more hits 3-1 but NPL got a run across in the third, and made it stick.

Kaylen Sluyter (2-for-3) and Brooklyn Evans (1-for-2) had the two Towanda hits.

Leila Cobb was strong in the loss, striking out 14 with two walks, one hit, and one earned run.

Elyna Booth struck out 11 in the win for NPL with three walks, and three hits.

In the third a 2-out Haley Litzelman run scoring single put the Mounties up 1-0.

Towanda’s best chance to score came in the sixth as Maris Cobb was hit by a pitch followed by Evans drawing a walk. Towanda’s Vargason bunted them over, putting the red hot Caedence Wells up to the plate.

NPL opted to intentionally walk Wells for pitcher vs pitcher with Booth striking out Cobb to end the threat.

“We had our opportunities,” said Towanda coach Dean Johnson. “This was one of those ones that just gets away from you. It was there, and we didn’t take advantage of what needed to be done.”

The loss drops Towanda into a tie with NPL in second for the NTL Large School standings. They both have two losses while Athens has just one.

Athens and Towanda and NPL and Athens will play one more time.

“It tells us where we are,” Johnson said about a game like this. “You can beat up on some of the other teams, that doesn’t really give you a marker, where as this tells us where we are, and what we need to improve.”
