NTL SOFTBALL: TOWANDA SCORES LATE TO EDGE WELLSBORO (April 23, 2026)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWELLSBORO — Towanda softball held off a tough challenge from Wellsboro for a 5-3 win during NTL action Thursday.
Both teams scored in the first inning, with Towanda getting two more in the third for a 3-1 lead. The Hornets tied it up with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Knights went ahead with a run in the sixth, then added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
Maris Cobb (1-for-2) had a double with two runs scored, as Payton Perry (1-for-4) and Leila Cobb (1-for-3) both crossed home.
Brooklyn Evans had an RBI with Brynsen Vargason scoring a run.
Leila Cobb struck out 14 with two hits, three walks, and three runs.
Maris Cobb would double in the first, then scored on an error off the bat of Caedence Wells for the 1-0 lead.
Perry led off the third with a hit. After two outs Vargason drew a walk, followed by Perry scoring on a passed ball.
Wells kept the at bat going with a walk, allowing Vargason to score on a wild pitch during the next at bat for a 3-1 lead.
In the sixth Leila Cobb reached on a 1-out single, then scored on an error off the bat of Molly Roberts for a 4-3 game.
Towanda’s final run came when Maris Cobb reached on an error, then scored on an Evans ground out for the 2-run win.
Towanda (8-2) will host Hughesville on Friday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
