Northern Tier Sports Report
WYALUSING — Wyalusing baseball hung with Athens but couldn’t quite get the upset, falling 5-2 to the Wildcats during NTL action Thursday.

Athens jumped out with two runs in the top of the first with Wyalusing chipping away with a run in the bottom of the fourth.

Both teams scored in the fifth, with Athens getting insurance runs in the sixth.

Griffin Sheldon (2-for-3) and Owen Brown scored the two Ram runs as Mahdden Hugo (1-for-2) had a double with an RBI. Jared VandeMark (1-for-2) also had a hit as Michael Phillips drove in a run.

VandeMark started, and went 5 1/3-innings with four strikeouts, five walks, five hits, and five earned runs.

Brown tossed the final 1 2/3-innings with one strikeout, two walks, and two hits with no runs.

Nick Grazul (1-for-4) had a home run as Brady Flynn (3-for-3) was perfect from the plate with a run scored.

In the fourth Brown led off with a walk, then three batters later Hugo hit a 2-out double to score him for a 2-1 ball game.

In the bottom of the fifth Sheldon would draw a walk then stole his way around to third where Phillips drove him home with a sacrifice fly.

Wyalusing would get two on with one out in the bottom of the seventh but Athens got back to back fly outs to secure the win.

Wyalusing (3-9) travels to Wyoming Seminary on Friday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
