NTL SOFTBALL: TROY PLAYS ATHENS TOUGH BUT COMES UP SHORT (April 24, 2026)

EAST TROY — Troy lost a hard fought Large School softball contest to Athens, 3-1, during NTL action Friday.

The Wildcats scored a run in each of the second and third innings to go up 2-0. Troy battled back with a run in the bottom of the fourth.

It stayed a 1-run game until the top of the seventh, when Athens pushed another across.

Haidyn Watson (1-for-4) and Maddyson Muir (1-for-2) each had a double with Muir also driving in a run.

Sydnee Bellows (1-for-4) and Delaney Kendall (1-for-3) also had hits as Lauren Reed scored their run.

Erinn Knapp struck out four in the loss, allowing three walks, six hits, and three runs, two of which were earned.

Athens’ Gretchen Hiley struck out 18 in the win while going 1-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

In the bottom of the fourth Reed was hit by a pitch. Two batters later Muir rocked a 2-out double to bring her in.

The Trojans would load the bases in the bottom of the fifth with one out but Hiley got back to back strikeouts to end the threat.

Troy (4-8) is at Towanda on Tuesday.
