NTL BASEBALL: TROY FALLS IN BACK AND FORTH CONTEST TO ATHENS (April 24, 2026)

EAST TROY — In a back and forth contest Troy fell to Athens,13-11, during NTL baseball action Friday.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 7-2 first inning lead, then tacked on two more runs in the second inning for a 9-2 lead.

Troy responded with an 8-run third to take a 10-9 lead.

Athens struck back with three runs in the fourth, and another in the fifth for a 13-10 advantage. Troy got one back in the sixth for a 13-11 final.

Brendan Gilliland (2-for-4) scored twice as Mason Smith (1-for-4) had a triple with two runs scored, and an RBI.

Reed Palmer (1-for-3) hit a double while scoring a run, as Frank Harper (1-for-2) and Pryor Teribury (1-for-3) both scored and drove in a run.

Logan Loxley scored and drove in two runs as Brody Ayres, and Logunn Heasley both scored. Ayres, and Trey Teribury each had an RBI.

Harper started, and went three innings with no strikeouts, six walks, eight hits, and nine runs. Trey Teribury pitched the next two innings with two strikeouts, two walks, five hits, and four runs.

Ayres tossed the final two innings with one walk, and two hits.

In the bottom of the first Smith opened up with a walk followed by a Heasley single. After an out Palmer drew a walk to load the bases, setting up a Loxley sacrifice fly that scored Smith.

An error off the bat of Ayres would score Heasley for a 7-2 score.

Gilliland got the big third inning going by reaching on a 1-out error, followed by Palmer drawing a walk. Loxley would reach on an error to load the bases.

Ayres was hit by a pitch, which brought in Gilliland, followed by a Pryor Teribury single that scored Palmer.

A Trey Teribury hit would drive in Loxley, Ayres, and Pryor Teribury for a 9-7 ball game.

Harper then singled in Garrett Parks, Trey’s courtesy runner, followed by Smith tripling in Harper for a 9-9 score.

Smith would later score on a wild pitch for a 10-9 ball game.

Troy’s final run came in the sixth with Gilliland leading off with a single. Palmer then doubled, setting up a Loxley ground out that scored Gilliland to make it a 2-run game.

Troy would use a pair of walks to load the bases with 1-out but Athens got out of the jam with an infield fly, and a strikeout. 

Troy (8-5) will travel to Towanda on Tuesday.
