NTL TRACK & FIELD: CANTON BOYS, GIRLS FALL TO WELLSBORO (2021-04-23)

CANTON — The Canton boys and girls track and field teams fell to Wellsboro Friday, in NTL action.

The boys lost 80-63, while the girls lost 86-58. 


On the girls’ side the Lady Hornets were strong in the hurdles (13-5), relays (10-5), throw (20-7) and jumps (28-6), though Canton had the edge in sprints (14-13), and distance (21-2).


For the girls, the Wellsboro 4x800 relay won in 12:38.4, with the Hornets then sweeping the 100 hurdles.


Canton’s Megan Eagleberger (14.0) and Laci Niemczyk (14.0) went second and third in the 100 as Wellsboro’s Hannah Morey (13.9) won.


The Warriors went 1-2 in the 1600 with Camille McRoberts (5:58.3) and Kali Wesneski (6:40.6), as Wellsboro’s Emma Davis (7:12.5) was third.


Wellsboro’s 4x100 relay won in 58.6.


Niemczyk (1:08.1) won the 400 with Wellsboro’s Emily Richardson (1:12.2) and Alexis Banik (1:12.8) second and third.


Canton’s Courteney Weiskopff (56.8) won the 300 hurdles, followed by the Hornets’ Kathryn Burnett (59.6) and Ella Posada (1:00.5).


McRoberts (2:39) and Wesneski (2:55.2) then went 1-2 in the 800, as Wellsboro’s Aislinn Hoose (3:02.3) was third.


Niemczyk (30.0) won the 200 title, followed by Morey (31.1), and Wellsboro’s Katherine DeCamp (31.6).


McRoberts (14:33.6) won the 3200, as her teammates won the 4x400 relay in 4:52.1.


The Hornets went 1-2 in the discus with Kiyah Boyce (68-feet, 3-inches) and Emma Coolidge (67-feet, 3-inches), as Canton’s Brittany Mosher (65-feet, 3-inches) was third.


Canton’s Reagan Kelley (30-feet, 1 1/2-inches) won the shot put, with Boyce (29-feet, 4-inches), and Wellsboro’s Grace Harlan (26-feet, 1 1/2-inches) third.


The Hornets went 1-2 in the long jump with Madelyn Rudy (13-feet, 1 1/4-inches) and Richardson (12-feet, 7 1/4-inches), with Weiskopff (12-feet, 2-inches) in third. Wellsboro swept the triple jump, and went 1-2 in the big jump.


Canton’s Theresa Beers (6-feet) won the pole vault with Hornet Hannah Nuss (5-feet) second.


Coolidge (92-feet, 11-inches), and teammate Alina Pietryzk (81-feet, 1-inch) went 1-2 in the javelin, as Canton’s Lauren Gleckner (71-feet, 7-inches) was third.


On the boys’ side Wellsboro had an edge in distance (15-11), hurdles (13-4), throws (15-12), and jumps (19-7), as Canton won the sprints (14-13), while both teams won a relay.


The Wellsboro 4x800 relay won in 9:48.4, and swept the 110 hurdles.


Wellsboro’s Jack Poirier (11.4), and Joseph Grab (11.5) went 1-2 in the 100, as Canton’s Connor Foust (12.1) was third.


Hornet Owen Richardson (5:16.9) won the 1600 with Canton’s Dylan Smith (6:03.3) second, and Hunter Huffman (7:05.8) third.


The Warriors swept the 400 with Isaiah Niemczyk (55.8), Foust (56.2), and Will Gowin (1:02).


Wellsboro’s Samuel Rudy (47.7) won the 300 hurdles with Canton’s Mason Shultz (55.4), and Smith (1:11.8) second and third.


Richardson (2:18) won the 800, followed by Canton’s Hunter Ostrander (2:21.1) and Michael Skipper (2:21.8).


Poirier (24.3) won the 200, with Niemczyk (25.0) second, and Foust (25.2) third.


Wellsboro’s Gage Guignard (12:57.3) won the 3200, with Huffman (15:44.7) third.


Canton’s 4x400 relay won in 3:56.4.


Warrior Caiden Williams (102-feet, 6-inches) won the discus with Wellsboro’s Wyat Gastrock (94-feet, 9-inches) second, and Justice Harlan (88-feet, 11-inches) third.


Williams (40-feet, 1-inch) also won the shot put, with Hornet Justice Harlan (36-feet, 4 1/2-inches), second, and Canton’s William Colton (36-feet, 3 3/4-inches) third.


Poirier (18-feet, 9 1/4-inches) won the long jump, followed by Niemczyk (18-feet, 3 1/2-inches), while Hornet Aden Tom (14-feet, 4-inches) took third.


Williams (37-feet, 11 1/4-inches) won the triple jump, as Rudy (36-feet, 3 1/4-inches) and Ostrander (32-feet, 10 1/2-inches) were second and third.


Williams got his fourth win of the day in the high jump at 5-feet, 2-inches, as Harlan (5-feet, 2-inches), and Tom (5-feet, 2-inches) were second and third.


Wellsboro’s Anthony Romania (9-feet, 6-inches) won the pole vault, with Ostrander (8-feet, 6-inches), second, and Hornet Spencer Wetzel (8-feet, 6-inches) third.


Gastrock (117-feet, 11-inches) and Harlan (106-feet, 1-inch) went 1-2 in the javelin, as Canton’s Curtis Lammy (101-feet, 5-inches) was third.
