Northern Tier Sports Report
CANTON — Canton had two starters combined for a 3-hit shutout as they rolled past Williamson, 9-0, during NTL baseball action Monday.

“After the season we’ve had in getting a win, and seeing everyone smile, and knowing were capable of putting some runs on the board - it was a lot fun seeing all the smiles,” Canton coach Ben Rubert said.

Canton scored in every inning, beginning with a run in the bottom of the first. They scored two in the second, fourth, and fifth innings, while getting one run in each of the third, and sixth innings.

“It allows some freedom with the pitch counts,” Rubert said about the early lead. “Allowing guys to go a little more. It frees your mind up in the box, knowing that you have a lead.”

Ryland Wesneski started, and went five innings with seven strikeouts, no walks, and three hits. Reed Taylor tossed the final two innings with one strikeout, two walks, and no hits.

Bailey Gardner continued to have the hot bat, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, 2-RBI, and a run scored to lead Canton as Trapper Burr (2-for-3) had two doubles, 2-RBI, and two runs scored.

Taylor (2-for-4) had a double with an RBI, as Aaden Dowling (2-for-3) had a double with two runs scored.

Daniel Inman (2-for-3) scored, with Carson Castle crossing home twice. Isaiah Colton (1-for-2), Leeland Tubach, and Luke Crawley each had an RBI.

Burr opened the bottom of the first by getting beaned, followed by Gardner hitting a single. After an out Inman singled to load the bases, setting up Tubach driving in Burr on a fielder’s choice.

Dowling got things going in the second with a 1-out double, followed by Castle drawing a walk.

A Burr ground out brought in Dowling, followed by Gardner doubling in Castle for the 3-0 lead.

Inman led off the third with a hit, then scored two batters later on a 1-out Colton single to make it a 4-0 ball game.

Burr and Gardner hit back to back doubles to lead off the fourth to make it 5-0. Taylor then singled in Gardner for a 6-0 score.

Dowling reached on a 2-out error to start the fifth, then scored on an error off the bat of Castle. Burr would double in Castle for an 8-0 lead.

Canton’s final run came in the sixth as Taylor led off the at bat with a double. His courtesy runner, Brayden Tucker, would score on a Crawley ground out for the 9-0 final.

Canton (6-11) will host Wyalusing on Tuesday.
