NTL BASEBALL: TOWANDA TOPS EDISON TO KEEP PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE (May 9, 2026)
Northern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. — Towanda baseball kept their postseason hopes alive with a 5-3 win over Edison during non-league action Friday.
Edison went up first with a run in the bottom of the third, then pushed another across in the fourth for a 2-0 lead.
Towanda would tie things up with two runs in the top of the fifth, then used a 3-run sixth to take a 5-2 lead.
The Spartans rallied with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t overcome the deficit.
Harper Welles (3-for-4) had 4-RBI to lead the Knights with Boom Thompson (2-for-4) hitting a double with a run scored, and an RBI.
Hudson Stevens (1-for-3) scored twice as Avery Butts (1-for-3), and Hagen Jones both scored. Lucas Vincent (1-for-3) added a hit.
Shane Maghamez went the first four innings with three strikeouts, two walks, three hits, and two runs, one of which was earned.
Thompson went the final three innings to get the win, striking out three with two walks, three hits, and one earned run.
Stevens led off the fifth with a single, followed by Thompson rocking a double to put runners on second and third with no outs.
Welles hit a 2-run single to bring them both in, knotting the game up at two.
In the sixth Towanda used three straight walks to Butts, Jones, and Stevens to load the base with one out.
Thompson would single in Butts to put the Knights up 3-2, then Welles hit a 2-run single to make it 5-2 Towanda.
Towanda (8-10) has two games left and needs to win both to qualify for districts. They travel to Notre Dame on Monday then head to Neumann on Tuesday.
