NTL BASEBALL: TROY FALLS TO ATHENS IN 10TH (May 12, 2026)
Northern Tier Sports ReportATHENS — It was another marathon game between Troy and Athens baseball with the Wildcats earning a 2-1 walk-off in the 10th inning to pick up the NTL win.
The Wildcats earn a share of the NTL Large School title with the win.
It was scoreless through five with the Trojans pushing a run across in the sixth.
Athens tied it up in the seventh to send it into extra baseball.
Through two innings neither team could score, but in the bottom of the 10th Athens scored off an error to get the win.
Brody Ayres (3-for-4) led Troy at the plate as Mason Smith (2-for-5) and Logunn Heasley (2-for-5) also had multi-hit games. Heasley’s included a double.
Brendan Gilliland (1-for-4) scored with Logan Loxley getting an RBI.
Pryor Teribury (1-for-4) and Trey Teribury (1-for-4) also had hits.
Reed Palmer started, and went 6 2/3-innings for Troy. He struck out five with two walks, nine hits, and one earned run.
Vinnie Colton tossed the final three innings with three strikeouts, two walks, one hit, and one unearned run.
In the bottom of the fourth Athens loaded the bases with no outs only to watch Palmer strike out the next three batters to get out of the jam.
In the sixth Gilliland led off with a walk, then scored on a Loxley ground out.
In the seventh Athens tied it up on a 1-out single. They nearly won the game but Troy made the third out at home on a steal attempt.
The Trojans didn’t have a base runners in the extra innings.
Troy ends the regular season 14-6 and will await to see who they get in the district playoffs, which will begin on Saturday.
