It was an impressive year for Canton in track and field as the Warriors dropped more records than Imagine Dragons en route to a pair of district titles, and Alexis McRoberts earning two state silvers.
"We great success throughout the season, multiple state qualifiers, and multiple school records broken," said Canton coach Casey Aylesworth. "We may not have the deepest team, or largest numbers, however the kids we do have performed very well throughout the season."
The girls 4x100, 300 hurdles, 400, shot put, and discus all saw records fall, while the boys mile and 2-mile also had their records re-written.
"Danah Wesneski, Stella Rockwell, Daveian Crowley, and Hayley Larsen broke the school record in the 4x1 at districts," said Aylesworth. "Danah Wesneski broke the school record in the 300m hurdles. Daveian Crowley broke the school record in the 400m, just missing out on the states. Lawrence was a state qualifier in the 1600, and 3200m while setting new school records in both. Alexis McRoberts with two silver medals at states, two district meet records, becoming the only person in Canton history to medal in two events during the same year. Alexis is planning on competing at East Stroudsburg in Soccer and Track and Field, and I can't wait to see how she continues to develop as a thrower."
Both teams finished sixth at the NTL Championships, with the boys scoring 43 points and the girls getting 62.
McRoberts won the shot put and the discus, while Halbfoerster won the 3200 title.
The real fireworks came at the District IV Championships as with McRoberts winning gold in the discus and shot put while also setting new district records.
Halbfoerster pulled out a thrilling win in the 3200 while also making states in the 1600.
Crowley also made the podium in the 400, taking fourth.
McRoberts would be runner-up in both the discus and the shot put at the PIAA Championships.
At states Halbfoerster came up just short of the medals in the 3200 and the 1600.
"Daveian, Lawrence, and Alexis will leave Canton re-writing the record books; they are once in a coaching career type of talent, and we were fortunate to have them all at the same time," said Aylesworth. "We are really going to miss all the seniors, great kids to be around, great leaders, and really excited to see them go out and have success as adults. Even with these successes, one of the things I am most proud of was our boys team awarded the Bob Houser award at NTL Championship, for sportsmanship and integrity towards track and field. This shows that we as coaches and a team are not just focusing on the track/field success but also how we conduct ourselves, which really says a lot about the character of the athletes we coach."
