NTL BASEBALL: NEB RALLIES PAST TOWANDA (2021-04-26)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WYSOX — A 4-run fifth inning by Northeast Bradford propelled them to a 4-2 win over Towanda in NTL baseball action Monday.

Clay Wiggins (3-for-4) led the Panthers, with a double, an RBI, and a run scored, as Garrett Cooper (2-for-4) had a double with an RBI. Joe Stanton (1-for-3), Nick Beers (1-for-4), and Dillion Donnelly (1-for-2) all had hits. Beers knocked in two runs, as Donnelly scored a run.

Lucas Crown, and Collin Allis both scored, too.

Allis started for NEB, going 3 1/3-innings with six strikeouts, two hits, one walk, and two runs, only one of which was earned.

Stanton pitched for two-thirds of an inning, striking out one with two hits.

Crown came on for the final three innings to get the win, striking out three with two hits.

Garrett Chapman (2-for-4) led the Knights, as he also scored a run, while Octavious Chacona (1-for-2), Alex Bowman (1-for-3), Owen Clark (1-for-3), and Ethan Sparrow (1-for-3) also had hits. Bowman, and Mason Johnson each had an RBI, with Zayne McCarthy scoring a run.

Chacona started, and went 4 2/3-innings to take the loss. He struck out seven, with three walks, seven hits, and four runs, two of which were earned.

Chapman pitched the final 2 1/3-innings, striking out three with one walk and one hit.

Towanda struck early, scoring in the bottom of the first as Chapman hit a 1-out single. Two batters later Bowman’s 2-out single scored Chapman to put the Knights up 1-0.

Towanda scored again in the bottom of the fourth, with Chacona leading off with a walk. McCarthy came in to run for Chacona, stealing second, then advancing to third on a pass ball. That set up Johnson’s sacrifice fly that brought McCarthy home to make it 2-0.

That lead was short lived, as in the top of the fifth Donnelly led off with a single. Crown then reached on an error, with both getting to second and third.

That set up Wiggins’ 2-run double to knot the game up at 2-2. Wiggins then scored off a Beers single to make it 3-2, though Beers would be thrown out trying to advance to third.

With two outs NEB kept the rally going as Allis drew a walk, followed by Cooper doubling him in to put NEB up 4-2.

The Knights would threaten in the bottom of the fifth, but never got close to scoring after that.

Towanda will travel to Elk Lake for a non-league match-up on Wednesday, while NEB hosts Athens. Both games are at 4:30 p.m.
