The Sports Reports
It was a star-studded season for area girls track and field with state championships and records being gobbled up by the handfuls. Leading the way were Wellsboro's Piper Hoprich in Pa., and Corning's Cella McLaughlin in New York.

The duo each brought in a pair of state titles, amongst plenty of other accolades. They are The Sports Reports / Ziff Law Firm All-Region "Girls Track & Field Co-Athletes of the Year."

Wellsboro's Lauren Kosek is the "Track Athlete of the Year," and Canton's Alexis McRoberts is the "Field Athlete of the Year."

Towanda's Maris Cobb is the "Newcomer of the Year," while Wellsboro's Coaching Staff is the "Coaching Staff of the Year," and the Hornet 4-by-100 relay is the "Relay of the Year."

McLaughlin claimed the state title in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.76 seconds, and in the long jump at 19-feet, 11 1/4-inches. She finished with six of the top-eight jumps in the state at the competition, while also qualifying for states in the 100-meter dash.

Hoprich was state champion in the 100 (11.90 seconds) and the 200 (24.39 seconds), while also earning a state medal as part of Wellsboro's 4-by-100 relay.

In many other years, Hoprich's teammate Kosek would be the Overall Athlete of the Year. Kosek was a state medalist in the 1,600-meter run (4:58.65) and the 3,200-meter run (10:35.87), taking home silver in the 2-mile.

She and Hoprich also led the Hornets to their first league title in more than a decade.

Few probably set more records than McRoberts, who earned both program and district records in the shot put and discus. She won district titles in both, while taking home state silver in each event.

Cobb was a dual-sport athlete this spring, starting at second for the softball team, but still found a way to qualify for states in the 3,200-meter run, and nearly got there in the 1,600-meter rn and the 4-by-800 relay.

Wellsboro ended Athens' decades long dominance of the NTL this past year, while the Hornets also came in third place at the PIAA Track & Field Championships.

The Hornet 4-by-100 relay of Hoprich, Sophia Yoder, Luna Moyer, and Paige Rush took fourth overall at States in 50.25 seconds to stand on the podium.

Brynn Woodruff, Towanda: Woodruff was a district champion in the javelin, and went on to win her second straight silver medal at states.

Vida Rossi, Tioga: Rossi earned bronze in the 100 at states (12.34) and was sixth in the long jump (18-feet, 8 3/4-inches) to be a 2-time state medalist.

Abby Burgess, Athens: Burgess was a state qualifier in the 100 in Class AAA from District IV, while earning a district medal in the 200.

Chinoverem Okoro, Corning: Okoro was a state qualifier in both the 400 and the high jump. She was second at sectionals in the 200.

Selena Rollins, Elmira: Rollins was a state qualifier in the 200.

Reese Conway, Corning: Conway was a state medalist in the pole vault at 11-feet, 6-inches.

Kaylin Twedt, Waverly: Twedt was a state qualifier in the 400, while was also part of 4-by-100 and 4-by-400 relays that took home silvers at sectionals.

Madalynn Bailey, Williamson: Bailey was a state qualifier in the 800 and the long jump.

Clare Devlin, Corning: A state qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles and the triple jump, just missing a medal with a ninth-place finish.

SECOND TEAM
Marin Maynard, Towanda: Maynard was a state qualifier in the pole vault.

Gianna Soprano, Waverly: Won gold in the pole vault at the state qualifier, and was on their strong 4-by-100 relay team.

Serenity Rollins, Elmira: Rollins was a state qualifier in the 100.

Samantha Harvey, Corning: Harvey was a state qualifier in the discus.

Clare McLaughlin, Corning: McLaughlin was a state qualifier in the pentathlon, and sectional runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles.

Olivia Martinec, Corning: Martinec was second in the 3,000-meter run at the state qualifiers with a time of 10:35.04.

Kateland Dininny, Corning: Dininny was second in the 1500 at state qualifiers in 5:01.61.

Scarlett Graham, North Penn-Mansfield: Graham was a state qualifier in the 400.

Daveian Crowley, Canton: Crowley just missed states in the 400 with a time of 59.92.

Sophie Bennett, Northeast Bradford: Bennett was a two-time district medalist in the 3,200-meter run (11:49.98) and the 1,600-meter run (5:21.27).

Hannah Lasko, Edison: Lasko ran 58.32 seconds in the 400-meter dash to just miss states, while posting 25.88 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

Kezlyn DeKay, Waverly: DeKay won the 100-meter hurdles title at the state qualifier, and was part of Waverly's strong 4-by-100 relay team.

Mya Maynard, Towanda: Maynard was a district medalist in the discus (108-feet, 3-inches) and the shot put (33-feet, 5 1/2-inches).

Eliana Cook, Towanda: Cook just missed states in the shot put (36-feet, 3 1/2-inches).
