The number one story of the season has been 46 years in the making. This past season Towanda wrestling coach Bill Sexton became the winningest coach in the state Pennsylvania, getting the record breaking win, 768, just before Christmas.

It's hard to sum up 46 years of coaching in just one night, or just one article, and numbers don't tell the whole story. The 18 North Section titles, and 13 NTL titles make for good banners and team shots, but don't get into the guts of what has happened in that wrestling room for nearly 50 years.

On December 23 Towanda defeated Central Columbia, 48-27, to claim the top spot, with many of his former wrestlers and coaches in attendance. To get to that moment he's had winning years in 45 of the 46 seasons he coached, with former assistant Steve Gobble calling that 'amazing.' 

Gobble coached with him in the 80's, current assistant Jeremy Slutyer wrestled for him in the 90's, and former assistant coach Mike Maurer wrestled for him in the 2000's - and all of them were in attendance that night.

He'll go into this winter with a record of 773 wins, 271 loss, and three ties, but current AD Jack Young said it best when it came to the numbers.

“It’s just a tremendous moment,” remarked Young. “I mean, Pennsylvania is the greatest wrestling state there is, so for coach to achieve this from the team aspect of the sport, to me it builds District IV wrestling, and speaks volumes about the community. We had a tremendous crowd, we had three really good dual meets, and coach Sexton’s longevity speak for itself. The banners, and the trophies, and the plaques, they speak volumes, but they don’t even tough on what that man is.”
