It's year two for Canton golf and the golfers are excited to improve on last year's showing. They have plenty of returnees, and even added a couple more Troy golfers to the mix.

"I'm so excited," said Tommy Preston. "We have a good amount of kids here that want to play, and I'm excited to see how it goes."

Preston believes the experience they picked up last year will help them hit the ground running this year.

"We had a lot of new kids last year, but now they have experience under their belt, and they know how the rules go, and everything works out," he said. "I think we're going to stick to the program a little bit more this year, and we're all excited to get the work in.

Their goal this year has been to work short first.

"We are kind of learning golf backwards," Preston said. "We're going to start with a short club, and learn to get more distance. It's the boring part of golf, but it's one of the most important. That's where a lot of your strokes go. A lot of people want to hit the big clubs, but it's the short game where it really matters."

Sam Stafford is one of the Troy kids on the team this year, and he's enjoying mixing with the Canton athletes.

"It's fun," he said. "You get to meet a bunch of new kids every year, and it's a great time."

Stafford is looking to zone in his accuracy this year.

"I'm working on my irons - five through nine irons," he said. "I want to be consistent with those irons day in and day out. One day you'll have a great day, and the next day it's completely off."

Team wise they picked up their first win last year so with that out of the way they're looking to nab a few more this season. Mostly, though, it's about being there for each other, and using that to push themselves up that ladder.

"Having good chemistry as a team, and rooting for each other, supporting each other, and keeping each other accountable," Preston said. "Helping them with anything you know that they might not know, and just being there for them."
