NTL SOFTBALL: NEB STAYS UNDEFEATED WITH ROUT OF ATHENS (2021-04-28)

ROME — The Northeast Bradford softball train kept chugging along, Wednesday, as they routed Athens 11-1 in five innings, during NTL softball action.

The Panthers scored in every inning, their big one a 4-run fourth to break the game open.


Maisie Neuber (2-for-2), had a home run, a double, 3-RBI, and a run scored, Kayleigh Thoman (2-for-4) had a double with a run scored, and Mikayla Post (2-for-3) had 2-RBI in the contest.


Thailey Franklin (1-for-3) had a double, and scored a run, as Emily Susanj (1-for-3) also had a hit. Malina Ramires, and Briana Allis, both scored runs running for Franklin and Susanj.


Ciana Frisbie (1-for-2) had a run scored, with an RBI, Julia Brown walked three times with a run scored, Julianna Susanj (1-for-3) had a double, with two runs scored, and Melanie Shumway (1-for-3) had a hit with a run scored.


Franklin was stout once again for NEB, striking out eight, with just one walk, four hits, and one earned run.


In the bottom of the first Franklin hit a 1-out double, followed by Neuber drilling a 2-out, 2-run home run to put the Panthers up 2-0.


Then in the second Thoman started a 2-out rally with a double, followed by back to back walks from Franklin, and Emily Susanj.


Thoman would score on an error, making it 3-0, as Neuber walked. Frisbie then walked to bring in Ramires, running for Franklin, for a 4-0 lead.


The Panthers added another run in the bottom of the third, as Julianna Susanj led off with a double. Post then brought her home with an RBI single for NEB’s 5-0 lead.


NEB then put the game away in the fourth, as Neuber led off with a walk. After an out Brown walked, followed by Neuber scoring on a wild pitch.


Julianna Susanj would walk, followed by Post reaching on an error to load the bases. Brown would steal home to make it 7-0, then Shumway singled in Julianna Susanj to make it 8-0 Panthers.


Thoman followed by singling in Post for a 9-0 lead, though Athens got out of the jam with a double play off Franlkin’s bat.


The Wildcats would get back to back doubles in the fifth get on the scoreboard.


However, in the bottom half of the inning Emily Susanj led off with a single, followed by Neuber scoring her courtesy runner, Allis, on a double to make it 10-1.


After two straight walks Athens got an out, but a Post double scored Frisbie to end the game.


The Panthers (8-0) get another tough test on Friday as they play host to CV, with 4:30 p.m. start.
