THE WEEK AHEAD: FOOTBALL OPENS THE REST OF THE FALL SPORTS SEASON (August 23, 2026)

Northern Tier Sports Report
The week everybody has been waiting for all summer - Fall sports gets rolling with the first week of football on Friday.

FOOTBALL
Friday, August 28
Montoursville at Troy, 7 p.m.: The Trojans get Class AAA power Montoursville to start the season. 

CV at Canton, 7 p.m.: The Warriors get an extra home game this year due to CV's field not being ready. The Indians are coming off a season that saw them make district play.

Athens at Wyalusing, 7 p.m.: The Rams open the season at home against the Wildcats, who are coming off a 2-loss season a year ago.

Towanda at Sayre, 7 p.m.: Originally scheduled for Saturday, the Knights head up 220 to face-off a Sayre team with a new coaching staff.

GOLF
Monday, August 24
NTL at Shepard Hills, 1 p.m.: Athens will host the entire league as they head into their third match of the season. The Knights have built a 2-win lead over second place Athens on the boys' side, while for the girls it's Athens with a 2-win lead over Towanda.

GIRLS TENNIS
Monday, August 24
Wellsboro at Towanda, 4 p.m.: The season opener for the Knights as they return to action for the first time since 2024. The Hornets are the reigning league champions.

Thursday, August 27
Bucktail at Towanda, 4 p.m.: The Knights take on the always tough Bucks squad.

GIRLS SOCCER
Friday, August 28
Wyalusing vs MCA at Montgomery Tournament, 3:30 p.m.: The Rams head south to open the season against MCA in the first round of the Montgomery Tournament.

Saturday, August 29
Wyalusing at Montgomery Tournament: Wyalusing will finish up at the 2-day event.

Towanda at Northumberland Christian, 11 a.m.: Towanda hits the road as they head down south for their season opener.

Troy at Loyalsock, 11 a.m.: The Trojans also head south for the season opener against the Lancers.

BOYS SOCCER
Saturday, August 29
Wellsboro at Wyalusing, 11 a.m.: The Rams take the field for the first time in 20 years, and do it against league power Wellsboro.

MCA at Towanda, 3 p.m.: The Knights open the season against Meadowbrook at home.

Williamson at Troy, 4 p.m.: The Trojans welcome the Warriors for a league match in their season opener.

VOLLEYBALL
Saturday, August 29
Canton, Towanda, NEB, at Williamson Tournament: Due to the late start this year the Williamson Tournament is the season opener for many teams across the area.
