THE WEEK AHEAD: A BUSY WEEK AS FALL SPORTS REV UP (August 30, 2026)

Northern Tier Sports Report
Fall sports really gets rolling this week with everybody going, from football and soccer to cross-country and volleyball.

FOOTBALL
Thursday, September 3
Muncy (0-1) at Wyalusing (0-1), 6 p.m.: Both teams are coming off week one losses, though the Indians fell just 14-7 to Warrior Run. Note the early kick-off time.

Friday, September 4
Athens (1-0) at Troy, (0-1), 7 p.m.: A very big early season match-up as this game was excited all the way through to the end last year. The Wildcats are coming off a big win over Wyalusing, while Troy fell to a tough Montoursville squad.

Montgomery (1-0) at Canton (1-0), 7 p.m.: The Raiders are coming off a big win over Hughesville (24-0) last week while Canton had that come from behind thriller against CV. 

NP-Mansfield (0-1) at Towanda (1-0), 7 p.m.: A better start this year for the Knights as they rolled past Sayre. NPM lost 48-0 to South Williamsport in their opener.

VOLLEYBALL
Tuesday, September 1
Towanda (1-0) at Wyalusing, 7 p.m.: A big rivalry match-up early this year with the Knights coming off a win over NPL.

Athens at Troy, 7 p.m.: The Trojans claimed the Williamson Tournament title this year with Athens falling in the semifinals.

CV at NEB, 7 p.m.: Both teams competed at the Williamson Tournament title this past weekend.

Canton at Williamson, 7 p.m.: Canton reached the quarterfinals of the Williamson Volleyball Tournament, while Williamson fell in the finals.

Thursday, September 3
Wyalusing at Troy, 7 p.m.: The home stand continues for Troy as they welcome the Rams for a Large School tilt.

Wellsboro at Towanda (1-0), 7 p.m.: The Knights bring in the always tough Hornets for a home contest.

NEB at Sayre, 7 p.m.: Both teams were at the Williamson Tournament this past weekend, with Sayre falling in the quarterfinals.

Canton at CV, 7 p.m.: The Warriors' early season road trip continues, this time they travel to Westfield.

Saturday, September 5
Canton at Tunkhannock Tournament: The Warriors head to the rugged Tunkhannock Tournament to end the week.

GIRLS SOCCER
Tuesday, September 1
Muncy at Troy (0-1), 4:30 p.m.: The home opener for Troy as they look to bounce back from their loss to Loyalsock on Saturday.

Wednesday, September 2
Athens at NEB, 4 p.m.: The Panthers open the season with the always tough Wildcats.

Towanda (1-0) at NP-Mansfield, 4 p.m.: The Knights are coming off a season opening win over NCC as they hit the road again.

Troy (0-1) at Williamson, 4 p.m.: Back to back games for the Trojans as they hit the road to Tioga Junction.

Wellsboro (0-1) at Wyalusing (1-1), 4 p.m.: The Hornets opened the season with a 5-3 loss to Hughesville, while the Rams split their tournament.

Friday, September 4
Wyalusing (1-1) at NEB, 4 p.m.: The Panthers welcome their rivals to end the week.

Saturday, September 5
Towanda (1-0) at Wellsboro (0-1), 10 a.m.: The Knights' road trip continues with their third road game to start the season.

Athens at Troy (0-1), 4 p.m.: The Trojans welcome their rivals to East Troy for a big early season match-up.

BOYS SOCCER
Monday, August 31
Troy (0-1) at Muncy, 4:30 p.m.: The Trojans hit the road as they look to bounce back from their loss to Williamson.

Tuesday, September 1
NEB at Williamson (1-0), 4 p.m.: The season opener for the Panthers while Williamson is coming off a win over Troy.

Wyalusing (0-1) at Galeton (1-0), 5:30 p.m.: The Rams hit the road as they look to bounce back from their loss to Wellsboro. Galeton recently defeated NPL 5-1.

Troy (0-1) at Wellsboro (1-0), 5:30 p.m.: The Trojans hit the road to perennial powerhouse Wellsboro, who beat Wyalusing to start the season.

NPL (0-1) at Towanda (1-0), 6 p.m.: The Knights' early season home stand continues as they welcome NPL, who lost to Galeton to open the season.

Thursday, September 3
NEB at Troy (0-1), 4 p.m.: Troy returns home for their third game in four days as NEB's early season road trip continues.

Wyalusing (0-1) at Athens, 5:30 p.m.: The Rams head to the valley to take on the defending league champions.

Wellsboro (1-0) at Towanda (1-0), 6 p.m.: An early season test for the Knights as they welcome the Hornets.

Saturday, September 5
Wyalusing (0-1) at Montgomery, 1 p.m.: The Rams end the busy week with a third straight road game, this time heading down south.

CROSS-COUNTRY
Tuesday, September 1
Towanda, Troy, Canton at Athens, 4:30 p.m.: The meet will take place at SRU as the Knights look to defend their league titles.

NEB, CV, NP-Mansfield at Wellsboro, 4:30 p.m.: The Panthers strike out west to star the season as they take all three Tioga County teams.

Sayre, Sullivan County at Wyalusing, 4:30 p.m.: The Rams open the season at home with the defending Small School champions.

Saturday, September 5
NEB at Cliff Robbins Invitational, 9 a.m.: The Panthers head back to Dallas for the 29th Annual invitational.

Wyalusing, Troy at Lock Haven Invitational: The Rams and Trojans head down to the annual river run.

GOLF
Wednesday, September 2
Canton at Wyalusing, 4:30 p.m.: The two teams meet at Towanda Golf Course for 9-hole league action.
