ROME — NEB played Athens to a tough 1-0 loss in their NTL girls soccer season opener Wednesday.

Allie Kemp notched the deciding goal for Athens just before the half.

NEB had a 22-20 edge in shots while Athens had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Maggie Chappell made nine saves in net for NEB.

With just under 10 minutes to play Delanie Patton found Kemp for the game's lone goal to give Athens the win.

NEB (0-1) will host Wyalusing on Friday with a 4 p.m. start.
