Wellsboro's Lauren Kosek has one goal in mind this year, and the way she dominated the field at the Cliff Robbins Invitational, no one is going to be surprised by it.

"I think it's no secret that that is the goal this season," the senior said. "I think I'm in the best place I could be right now."

She took home bronze in the Class AA race last November, and broke the tape for the second time at Cliff Robbins this past Saturday.

Her time of 18:46.1 was faster than her winning time a year ago, and this year she did it through the mud and 1:54 ahead of the rest of the field.

"It's super exciting," Kosek said about besting her 2025 time by 12 seconds. "I was excited to get out here and open my season. I had a really good summer of training. I was excited to see where I'm at, and I think this shows that there's a lot more to come this season."

Last year Crestwood's Katie Kozich finished just 21 seconds behind her but this year Kosek was all alone for much of the race, leading by over a minute at the 2-mile mark.

"It was expected," she said about running by herself. "The idea was to go out hard, and see what happens."

Running is as much mental as it is physical, and Kosek used this as a mental workout.

"This is an extremely hard course to stay mentally engaged in," she said. "When you're by yourself your brain is begging you to settle a little bit, so the whole idea of kind of just to challenge myself mentally into not settling. I think there were parts of that I did do the way I wanted to, and parts that I definitely could use some work."
