ROME — It took until mid-September but NEB boys soccer finally got to play a game on their field, and it was apparently what they needed as they beat Wyalusing 7-1 in NTL action Tuesday.

"In our first home game of the season - in a season in which it doesn't feel like we are ever at home - we did what we should have and played as we should, with good passing and better communication we found the back of the net seven times," NEB coach Scott Merritt said. 

Dan Barrett had four goals, Wes Alderfer added two, and Anthony Pousen rounded out the scorers.

Brody Allen had three assists with Pousen getting two helpers, as Landon Chapman had one.

Moses Metcalf continued to have the hot foot for the Rams with a goal.

"Anthony Pousen found the back of the net with a great dribble and drive and had a assist," said Merritt. "Brody Allen had a great night of communication and distribution, he was a lynch pin for most offensive plays, had the most vocal communication of the squad was typically part of the play leading up to the assist or shot and ended with three assists. Landon Chapman also had a assist on a play in which he defended,stole,the ball, made a great play taking up the space given and played a fantastic ball thru angled gap from a little past the half to the the mids and back line to a running on Dan Barrett."

NEB out shot Wyalusing 15-4 and had an 11-2 edge in corner kicks.

Chris Rought made three saves for NEB as Ryland Kipp had nine saves for Wyalusing.

"I'll give Wyalusing credit they held their heads up and did not give up or quit," said Merritt. "Their goalie Ryland Kipp kept his composure and continued to put in effort despite a lot of pressure. They never slowed or stopped running on defense or attack attempts, and despite a good amount of corner kick attempts, they thwarted everyone one. Harry Meyer had some key ball connections to clear our corner kicks and Jack Fischer field generals the team thru all phases of offense, defense and set pieces. I was impressed with Jack's ability to keep leading, stay poised, and positive thru adversity."

Just under six minutes in Barrett got the scoring going off a Chapman assist.

Barrett got his second goal off an Allen helper at the 28:43 mark.

Alderfer would get credit after a Wyalusing own goal at 23:08, then just before the half Allen found Alderfer for a goal to make it 4-0.

Metcalf scored a little over four minutes into the second half to spoil the clean sheet.

At the 15:57mark Pousen hit Barrett for a goal, then Pousen scored off an Allen helper at the 12:16 mark.

Barrett got the final goal off a Pousen assist.

NEB (2-2-1) hits the road again, this time out to Galeton on Thursday, while Wyalusing travels to Blue Ridge on Saturday with a noon start.
