FOOTBALL: CANTON BRINGS IN SAYRE FOR NTL SMALL SCHOOL BATTLE (October 2, 2026)

Northern Tier Sports Report
Canton (3-2) will look to bounce back from their loss at South Williamsport last week as they host a streaking Sayre (2-3) team with a 7 p.m. kick-off on Friday.
The Warriors were able to get the best of Sayre last year on the road, but Canton coach Tyler Sechrist knows this is a different team.
"Sayre is playing really sound physical football right now," he said. "Coach Kapichok has them playing well and they are on a two game win streak."
Sayre has developed a strong running game behind a big offensive line, and a very big back in Hudson Malanoski.
"We will need to tackle low and play fast and rally to the football," Sechrist said.
When they have the ball the Warriors believe their athletes give them an edge if they can get them the ball.
"Offensively we just need everyone to do their job and let our athletes make plays in space," said Sechrist.
KEYS TO THE GAME
Sayre - Don't get into a shootout. Canton wants to throw the ball around, but the Redskins can't get into that type of game. They need to play ball control, and pound the ground.
Canton - Get stops defensively. They can't let Sayre keep chipping away on run after run, they need 3-and-outs.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Declan Barry, Sayre, QB - Barry threw for 172-yards and two touchdowns last week against Wyalusing, showing that Sayre isn't just one dimensional.
Blane Wesneski, Canton - Wesneski has 18 tackles on the year and fumble recovery, look for him to make plays on the defensive end.
