VOLLEYBALL: CANTON'S SEACHRIST EXCITED TO JOIN HER PROGRAM'S TOP HITTERS (October 16, 2026)

Earlier this week Canton's Makenna Seachrist hit her 500th kill, something she's been looking to do for quite a while.
"It feels really really good," said Seachrist. "I’ve been hoping to reach this milestone since freshman year. I’m very grateful for the achievement and from all the support from my coaches and team."
It's been a roller coaster ride for her, much like the Canton teams she's been on over the past four years.
"In the past, there were times I was unsure if I would reach it," Seachrist said. "It’s definitely more difficult as a middle because it’s hard for the setters to set a good ball on non-perfect passes. However, coming into this season, I knew I was sort of close. I assumed I was in the 400s or at least close. But I made sure to not check my overall stats because I didn’t want to get my hopes up."
Seachrist has also had quite a few different setters throughout her career from Peyton Taylor to Brenna Van Noy to Addie Pepper, and she believes that's been a positive influence.
"I’ve had a few setters over the years and it’s really helped me grow as a hitter," Seachrist said. "Setters need to know their hitters, but hitters also need to know their setters. For example, I always know that if there’s a good pass, but it’s pulled off the net, Peyton will somehow manage to set me perfectly from the ten foot line. Over the years, I’ve made strong connections with my setters and I think that’s played a huge role in my career."
This comes at a good time for the Warriors as they've pulled themselves to above .500 just in time for district play.
"I hope our momentum carries into districts," said Seachrist. "I know that we all have the skill to carry us through and I think us going 4-1 last week really boosted our confidence. We know we can compete with these teams that we’ll be facing and hopefully come out on top."
