FOOTBALL: TROY SPREADS THE WEALTH IN THEIR WIN OVER SAYRE (October 16, 2026)

SAYRE — Sayre would strike first and last, but it was all Troy in between as the Trojans rolled to a 55-12 win over the Redskins during NTL football action Friday.

Troy pounded out 248-yards on 30 carries as 10 different backs got the ball.

"It's good to get the younger kids in," said Troy coach Jim Smith. "They played a whole half of football, and played pretty good against their varsity. I'm happy with that."

Jayden Kutt ran the ball eight times for 85-yards and two touchdowns to lead Troy while Evan Allen scored twice on three carries with 45-yards total.

Reed Palmer touched the ball once, but made it count with a 44-yard scoring run, as Landon Cole added 33-yards and a touchdown in the second half.

Spencer Martin was 2-for-7 for 58-yards with a touchdown and an interception, as Trey Teribury was the recipient of the 22-yard scoring strike. Logunn Heasley had a 36-yard catch to pick up a first down on first-and-32, while Vinnie Colton had a 19-yard first down reception.

Josiah Pesesky took the second half kick-off 70-yards to the house for their other score.

Hudson Malanoski led Sayre with 143-yards and a touchdown.

Sayre took the opening kick-off but went 3-and-out, with Troy taking over at midfield. On the third play from scrimmage a Martin pass was snatched out of the air by Sayre's Brayden Northrup, who raced down the left side of the field to the end zone.

The kick was no good but Sayre led 6-0 with 9:50 on the clock.

That woke Troy up as they went 53-yards on five plays to pay dirt on their ensuing drive. Kutt ran the ball three times for 26-yards, but it was Allen getting the touchdown run, cutting back off an inside hand-off and rumbling 27-yards to the end zone.

The extra point was no good, but it was 6-6 with 7:59 left in the opening frame.

The next Sayre possession ended with a 3-yard punt, setting Troy up at the Redskin 47-yard line.

They needed just three plays to get into the end zone, beginning with a 30-yard Kutt run. Two plays later he finished things off with a 1-yard touchdown run.

Martin found Palmer for the 2-point conversion to make it 14-6 Trojans with 4:36 on the clock.

After another 3-and-out from Sayre Troy needed just one play to score on their next drive as Palmer ran 44-yards to pay dirt. Ethan Hoffman hit the point after for a 21-6 score with 2:59 left in the first quarter.

Sayre was able to eke out a first down on their next drive, but when forced to punt Allen and Palmer got into the backfield. Allen blocked the punt while Palmer got the punter.

Troy took over at the Sayre 2-yard line, with Allen punching it in on the first play from scrimmage.

Landon Lee's kick was good, and it was 28-6 Troy with 10:19 left in the half.

Sayre's next drive went no where with Troy taking over at the Redskin 32-yard line.

They needed five plays to get to the end zone, ending with a 6-yard Kutt run. An 18-yard run from Kutt on third-and-9 kept the drive alive.

Hoffman hit the extra point for a 35-6 score halfway through the quarter.

Sayre's next possession ending in another punt attempt, but this time Troy sacked him in the backfield before he could get the kick off.

Taking over at the Redskin 22-yard line Martin found Teribury on the first play from scrimmage with a jump ball, and he came down in the end zone. Lee split the uprights and it was 42-6 with 4:14 to play in the half.

Troy had a chance late to score as Lee tried a 42-yard field goal - it had the distance but he pulled it left.

Pesesky would take the second half kick-off to the house to make it 48-6 with 11:45 on the clock.

After another Sayre punt the Troy JV took over at the Redskin 32-yard line.

A delay of game penalty set them back, but after that they would go 37-yards on four plays, ending with a 10-yard Cole touchdown run that saw him start left, then cut back right to the end zone.

Lee hit the point after for a 55-6 score.

Sayre finished on a high note with a 9-play, 73-yard scoring drive that ended with a 1-yard Malanoski run. The kick was blocked for a 55-12 score with 1:08 left in the third.

Troy would get down inside the Sayre 10-yard line on their next drive but the Redskins held firm, forcing a turnover on downs.

The ensuing Redskin drive saw them race out to midfield, but they ran out of time.

The win is Troy's seventh straight, and they look to make it number nine as they travel to Wyalusing next week.

"We're just focusing on ourselves," said Smith. "We're critiquing ourselves, trying to get better. That's the big focus, is looking at what we do, and trying to make us better."
