A BIG WEEK FOR TOWANDA GOLF, PLUS VOLLEYBALL AND GIRLS TENNIS WILL DECIDE LEAGUE CHAMPS (October 18, 2026)

Northern Tier Sports Report
The final week of the regular season, outside of football, and still a couple of NTL titles haven't been decided yet.

GOLF
Monday, October 19 - Wednesday, October 21
Towanda at PIAA Championships: The first two days will feature Boom Thompson and Graham Welles in the individual tournament. Then on Wednesday the Knights will debut amongst the top eight teams in the state in the team competition.

VOLLEYBALL
In volleyball Wellsboro has a 1-game lead on Towanda, and a 2-game lead on Athens.

Towanda has Troy this week and Sayre next, and needs to win both to have a shot at the league title. They'll also need somebody to beat Wellsboro.

The Hornets are at Athens this week, and host Troy. If they win out theirs, with one loss, though, things get interesting.

Athens as has Wellsboro and Wyalusing - both at home - two teams they lost to earlier this season. The best they can do is tie, and need to win out and get some help.

Tuesday, October 20
Towanda (11-4) at Troy (7-9), 7 p.m.: The Trojans need to win out to make districts, and that starts with the Knights in their home season finale.

Canton (9-8) at NEB (2-15), 7 p.m.: So far NEB's tenuous hold on the fourth spot in the playoffs is holding, though a win would likely ensure it. Canton has a firm grip on the second spots in Class AA.

Wyalusing (10-8) at NPL (12-6), 7 p.m.: the Rams look to have a firm hold of the seventh seed going into this week, while NPL is battling for the fourth spot.

Thursday, October 22
Troy (7-9) at Wellsboro (14-3), 7 p.m.: This could be the biggest match of the season for both teams depending on what happens elsewhere this week.

Wyalusing (10-8) at Athens (9-4), 7 p.m.: The Rams won the first one at home, and will look to get the season sweep.

GIRLS SOCCER
It's come down to three teams for the league title.

Troy (11-2-1) is done for the year but still has a shot depending how this week shakes out.

Wellsboro (10-1-1) has two games left against Athens. If they win out they're league champs.

If the Hornets lose one game the best they can do is tie Troy, and if they lose both they're out of the running.

Athens (8-1-2) has three league games left over the course of five days.

The Wildcats have two against Wellsboro sandwiched around a home match-up with Wyalusing, whom they tied in their first meeting.

If Athens wins out they take the league title. If they split with Wellsboro the Hornets and Trojans both have one more win than them, so they need to essentially need a sweep this week.

Tuesday, October 20
Towanda (4-11) at Sullivan County (2-11-2), 4 p.m.: The Knights hit the road to take on a Griffins team that has lost two straight.

Elk Lake at Wyalusing (9-4-2), 4 p.m.: The home regular season finale for the Rams, who have three games this final week.

Thursday, October 22
Wyalusing (9-4-2) at Athens (9-3-3), 5:30 p.m.: The Rams have a firm hold on the eighth seed for district soccer playoffs.

Saturday, October 24
Wyalusing (9-4-2) at Sullivan County (2-11-2), 11 a.m.: The strong showing this week from Wyalusing could see them move up a spot in the district standings.

Montoursville (8-5-2) at Towanda (4-11), noon: The season finale for the Knights as they take on playoff bound Montoursville.

FOOTBALL
Friday, October 23
Canton (4-4) at Towanda (3-5), 7 p.m.: A key game for both teams as far as district seedings are concerned. The Warriors have a chance to leap frog Muncy and get a bye in the first round but need a win here to do it. Towanda could use a win as they try to move up to sixth in the district standings.

Troy (7-1) at Wyalusing (0-8), 7 p.m.: The Trojans hit the road as they look for their eighth straight win of the season. The Rams are coming off a loss at Wellsboro.

BOYS SOCCER
Monday, October 19
NEB (7-8-1) at Wellsboro (13-2-2), 5:30 p.m.: The Panthers look to have the eighth spot tied up for the district playoffs but could move up with a strong final week.

Tuesday, October 20
Towanda (10-6-1) at Shamokin (2-14-1), 6 p.m.: The regular season finale for the Knights as they hit the road. A win here would likely clinch the fifth spot in the district standings.

Wednesday, October 21
Athens (10-5-2) at NEB (7-8-1), 4 p.m.: The regular season finale for the Panthers as they take on a Wildcat team that beat them earlier in the season.
