WYALUSING — Troy rolled to their eighth straight win on Friday, beating Wyalusing 58-6 in NTL football action.
The Trojans led 49-0 at the half as they racked up 241-yards of total offense with six different players scoring touchdowns.
Defensively, they held the Rams to just one first down in the first two quarters, and 55 yards of total offense.
"The defensive played good," Troy coach Jim Smith said. "The offense, we had some penalties we've got to clean up there early on, but overall, we did good. A lot of the young kids got to mix it up again, and so that's really good for our program, for the future."
Spencer ran for a touchdown while passing for two, rushing for 62-yards on three carries and going 3-for-5 for 50-yards through the air. He hit Trey Teribury and Reed Palmer for scoring strikes - with Teribury getting two catches for 45-yards.
Jayden Kutt ran the ball three times for 69-yards and two touchdowns, as Landon Cole had nine carries for 25-yards and two scores. Evan Allen had three carries, for 18-yards and a touchdown.
Wyalusing was able to get some things going in the second half as Jacob Gromley led all rushers with 109-yards and a touchdown on eight carries, with Conner Earle adding 13 touches for 25-yards.
Wiley Trobaugh was 4-for-16 for 24-yards as Tucker Harvey hauled in two catches for 19-yards.
The Rams finished with nearly 130-yards of total offense, and after scoring twice last week coach Jeffrey Hindman believes the young team is starting to turn a corner.
"It's taken longer than we'd hoped but we've got a lot of really young guys on this team that are having to step up, and play a lot of varsity minutes," he said. "Early in the season their heads were swimming, and I think they're starting to understand the system, and a lot of the plays that we look at we can see the progress is there. Sometimes it's hard to see, but I'm proud of these guys. As tough as this season has been, they're showing up every day, they're putting in the work, they're not giving up. It's just a great group of guys."
The Trojans took the opening kick-off and went 64-yards in six plays, ending with a 38-yard Kutt run to pay dirt on third-and-10. A 19-yard Martin run on third-and-3 earlier kept the drive alive.
Landon Lee nailed at the point after and it was 7-0 with 8:51 left in the first quarter.
After a Rams punt on their ensuing drive Troy took over at the Wyalusing 46 and needed just three plays to get into the end zone.
On the first play from scrimmage Martin found Teribury for a 35-yard gain, then two plays later Allen punched it in from 2-yards out. Ethan Hoffman nailed the point after for a 14-0 lead with 5:27 on the clock.
Wyalusing's next drive saw them punt after a Palmer sack on third down. Logunn Heasley returned the punt to the Wyalusing 5-yard line, where Martin found Palmer in the back of the end zone on the first play from scrimmage for their third score of the game.
Lee's kick was good and it was 21-0 with 3:03 on the clock.
A promising Wyalusing drive ended with a turnover, giving Troy the ball at the Ram 30-yard line.
Troy needed just three plays - an 11-yard run Allen run, a 9-yard Martin run, and then a 10-yard Martin pass to Teribury for the score.
Hoffman hit the point after this time for a 28-0 lead.
The ensuing kick-off was muffed by the Rams with Troy's Josiah Pesesky recovering. On the next play Kutt rumbled 22-yards to pay dirt to make it 35-0 after Lee's kick with 40 seconds left in the first quart.er
Wyalusing would turn it over on downs on their ensuing drive, setting Troy up at the ram 38-yard line.
On the opening play Martin would scramble untouched 38-yards to the end zone. Hoffman's kick was good, and it was 42-0 with 10:13 left in the half.
The two teams would trade possessions throughout the second half - including three back-to-back-to-back fumbles on three straight plays.
Late in the half on first-and-goal from the 10-yard line Cole found a seam to the end zone, with Lee's kick making it 49-0 with 2:50 on the clock.
There were three empty possessions to start the second half, with Troy's final scoring drive starting on the Wyalusing 37-yard line.
It would take them 8:55 on 13 plays to get into the end zone, scoring with 9:15 left in the game on a Cole 1-yard run on third-and-goal from the 1.
The Trojans converted one fourth down, and three third downs on the scoring drive.
Wyalusing would answer on their final drive, going 67-yards on seven plays, and ending with a 41-yard Gromley run right up the middle.
The Rams converted a key fourth down when Trobaugh hit Harvey for a 14-yard pass play on 4th-and-7 to set up the scoring run.
A bad snap forced Trobaugh to throw it for the 2-point conversion, and he found Xander Higley for the 56-8 final.
The Rams will head to Towanda next week for the Bronze Helmet, and Hindman hopes that'll put a jolt into his players.
"They're definitely excited about that," he said. "We were trying to keep the guys focused on Troy this week, but at the end of the game we said, 'Bronze Helmet week, come ready to work.' I think they're definitely fired up, and looking to play a good game."
Troy will host Canton for the Old Shore on the same day as they go for their ninth win in a row.
"It really brings both communities out," said Smith. "It's an intense game, and the old adage you throw the records away, and all that stuff. We have to have a good week and look forward to playing the Old Shoe game."
