Northern Tier Sports Report
Its back. Yes, it is time for collegiate wrestling. The northern tier still has plenty of wrestlers at the next level. This is an exciting time of the year.
It is good to see multiple area athletes taking their talents to the next level. When possible get out to see these area athletes in action. Wrestling at the Division I level is Mason Higley (Towanda) at Kent State and Colton Wade (Sullivan County) Clarion. At Lock Haven brothers Kade and Luke Sottolan (Williamson). At the Division II level there is Riley Oakes (NPL), Brayden Pequignot (NPL), and Caleb Nason (Athens) all at Millersville. While at the Division III level there is Nick Woodruff (Wyalusing) Penn College, Gavin Bradley (Athens) Castleton, Kruz McCusker (Sullivan County) Misericordia, and Lyle Vermilya (Canton) United States Coast Guard.
Mason Higley and Kent State open up this weekend at Purdue. Sottolano’s and Lock Haven will be at the Navy Classic. Millersville, Oakes, Pequignot, and Nason at the Pioneer Open. While Penn College and Misericordia are at the Lycoming Invitational where we could find Woodruff and McCusker.
In addition to the initial report on area athletes in college wrestling, we have a few more to add. Also competing at the Division III level is Mason Alexander from NEB, wrestling for Cortland. Cortland is at the Lycoming Invitational this weekend.
On the women’s side of things, you will find Anaiah Kolesar from NEB, wrestling for Division II Edinboro. Edinboro will be at the JCU Round Robin Invite. Wrestling for Lackawanna College is Hanna Rathbun from Athens.
Stay tuned for updates throughout the weekend and the season. Good luck to all area athletes.
