Northern Tier Sports Report
MONTOURSVILLE — Wyalusing volleyball wouldn't be denied a playoff win on Saturday, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to beat Montoursville, 3-2, in the District IV, Class AAA quarterfinals.
"This was a big win for our program, and I’m proud of how the girls handled the pressure," said Wyalusing coach Elizabeth VanDerpool. "We’re excited to keep moving forward.”
The Warriors won the first two sets 26-24 and 27-25, but a 25-22 third set win from the Rams sparked them.
They rolled 25-8 in the fourth set, then kept that going with a 15-9 in the fifth set to punch their tickets to the next round.
"I’m really proud of how the girls competed today," remarked VanDerpool. "We knew Montoursville was a strong team seated second and that we would have to earn every point. Our defense was solid, and our serving game was on today, which made a huge difference, especially in set four which changed the momentum for the rest of the match. Offensively, I thought we did a great job of finding openings on their side of the court and being smart with our shot selection."
They return to action on Tuesday as they face third seed Lewisburg at 5 p.m. at the Athens gym.
The Green Dragons beat Hughesville 3-0.
