It’s into the unknown for Northeast Bradford and Wyalusing softball today, as they embark on their PIAA playoff journey.

CLASS A

FIRST ROUND

NEB vs Halifax at Lebanon Valley College, 1:30 p.m.: Halifax plays in the same league as District IV teams East Juniata, and Line Mountain, so there is some way to compare, as both those teams played Wyalusing.


They swept EJ (6-0, 8-5), and split with Line Mountain (winning 4-1, then losing 3-2 in 8-innings). They also lost to state power Williams Valley 10-0.


In the District III title game they beat Millersburg 5-0. It was the rubber match between them as they split during the regular season.


They boast three hitters batting over .400, led by Hannah Roland’s .446 average. She has six home runs, six doubles, three triples, and 21-RBIs on the year.


Ashley Cooper is batting .414 with 15-RBIs, five doubles, two home runs, and one triple, while Aliza Steinhauer is hitting .403 with 14-RBIs, 11 doubles, two home runs, and a triple.


Mackenzie Sawdey is hitting .340 with 13-RBIs, three doubles, along with one triple, and one home run.


Sawdey is also their pitcher, boasting a 1.99 ERA, with 128 strikeouts, and 27 walks on the year.


The winner will play on Thursday, facing the winner of Meyersdale (21-0), and Williamsburg (15-4).


CLASS AA

FIRST ROUND

Wyalusing vs Mt. Union (18-3) at Mount Aloysius College, noon: Mt. Union is a hard hitting team that scored 10 runs or more in 10 games this season.


They boast 25 home runs as a team, with six players hitting .300 or better.


They’re leading batter is Kadyn Crisswell - one of four with an average over .400 - at .514 on the season. She has 29-RBIs, nine home runs, 14 doubles, three triples, and 37 runs scored.


Morgan Brumbaugh is next, hitting .486 with 29-RBIs, five home runs, and six doubles, while Karrigan Woodward is batting .438 with 16-RBIs, four home runs, and seven doubles.


Kaitlin Arnold is hitting .412 with 16-RBIs, four home runs, and seven doubles.


Woodward is their pitching. She has a 2.12 ERA, with 85 strikeouts, and 19 walks.


In their final three games of the year they went 1-2, after going 14-1 up to that point. In the playoffs they beat United 11-1 in the District VI quarters, then won 8-3 over Claysburg-Kimmel in the semifinals.


In the finals they edged Penns Valley 9-8 in extra innings.


The winner plays the winner of Williams Valley and Conwell Egan on Thursday.
