LITTLE LEAGUE: TROY MAJORS FALL, TOWANDA MINORS SOFTBALL 1-WIN AWAY FROM A TITLE (2021-07-02)

Northern Tier Sports Report
Despite the thunderstorms, several games were able to sneak in on Friday to help get District 15 Little League back on schedule.

MAJORS BASEBALL

TROY — Troy’s season came to an end with a 10-1 loss to Allegheny Mountain on Friday. Troy was one of the final six teams left in the tournament.


Also Friday Susquehanna Area defeated Tunkhannock 8-4, and will travel to Athens on Saturday as they face Sayre.


The winner of that game will take on Allegheny Mountain to see who comes out of the loser’s bracket to face the loser of Athens-Wellsboro next week.


MINORS BASEBALL

Canton stayed alive, beating Tunkhannock 11-9 to advance to the loser’s bracket semifinals, where they travel to Towanda Saturday. That game will be at 3 p.m.


Towanda lost to Southern Tioga 10-4 in the winner’s bracket semifinals on Friday.


Also on Saturday Troy will travel to Athens to decide the other half of the loser’s bracket.


MINORS SOFTBALL

Towanda stayed unbeaten as they defeated Susquehanna County 12-6 under the lights at Wysox on Friday.


Kendal Cook tossed a 1-hitter in the win, while also scoring a run.


Mary-Kate Eberlin had three hits, with three runs scored, while Maris Cobb had a triple, with a run scored.


Kaylen Sluyter had a hit, with two runs, while Ily Benjamin crossed home twice. Haileigh Lineburg had a hit with two runs, as Natalie Bump also scored, with Paige Buchanan hitting a triple. Molly Roberts didn’t record a hit, but did walk three times.


Towanda is now off until July 8 as the loser’s bracket get sorted out.


RTL finally finished their game against Southern Tioga, winning 17-13, Friday. They will now travel to Susquehanna Area next Tuesday to decide who faces Towanda again.


Towanda just needs to win one more game out of two chances to be crowned district champions.


MAJOR SOFTBALL

One district champion has already been crowned, as Tunkhannock defeated RTL 10-5 on Friday to claim the Majors Softball title. The game was originally postponed from Thursday.
