LITTLE LEAGUE: TROY MINORS FALL TO ATHENS (July 3, 2021)Northern Tier Sports ReportA few games on the slate for Saturday, with some of them able to get through in between the rain drops.
MINORS BASEBALL
ATHENS — It wasn’t July 4th yet, but there were plenty of fireworks in the Athens-Troy game, as Athens was able to pull out a 17-10 win in consolation bracket action.
Troy led 3-2 after the first inning, but Athens out scored them 3-0 over the next two to take a 5-3 lead halfway through the game.
Troy would cut it to 6-5 after the fourth, but that’s as close as it got. Athens scored five in the fifth, and six in the sixth to pull away for the win.
Brody Ayres went 3-for-4 with 3-RBI, and two runs for Troy, as Lucas Kress was 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored, and 2-RBI.
Hunter Watson had a double with two runs scored, Jerrett Root had a double with an RBI, while Oakley Roberts also had a hit, with a run scored. Josiah Pescesky crossed home as well.
Watson started, and went 2 1/3-innings to strike out three. Pescesky went the next 2 2/3-innings with four strikeouts.
Troy then used three pitchers in the final inning.
With the loss Troy’s season comes to a close, though, like the Majors group, they finish as one of the top six teams in District 15.
The other consolation game, Canton at Towanda, was postponed to Sunday, with a 4 p.m. start.
9-10-11 BASEBALL
This group finally finished up pool play as Sayre lost to Montrose 24-14 on Saturday.
That sets up the bracket, with top seed RTL hosting Athens on Monday, while Sayre travels to Montrose. Both games are at 6 p.m.
MAJORS BASEBALL
Sayre defeated Susquehanna Area 7-5 to stay alive in consolation bracket action.
Sayre will now host Allegheny Mountain on Monday with a 6 p.m. start. The winner will take on the loser of Wellsboro-Athens.
