A few games on the slate for Saturday, with some of them able to get through in between the rain drops.
ATHENS — It wasn’t July 4th yet, but there were plenty of fireworks in the Athens-Troy game, as Athens was able to pull out a 17-10 win in consolation bracket action.
Troy led 3-2 after the first inning, but Athens out scored them 3-0 over the next two to take a 5-3 lead halfway through the game.
Troy would cut it to 6-5 after the fourth, but that’s as close as it got. Athens scored five in the fifth, and six in the sixth to pull away for the win.
Brody Ayres went 3-for-4 with 3-RBI, and two runs for Troy, as Lucas Kress was 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored, and 2-RBI.
Hunter Watson had a double with two runs scored, Jerrett Root had a double with an RBI, while Oakley Roberts also had a hit, with a run scored. Josiah Pescesky crossed home as well.
Watson started, and went 2 1/3-innings to strike out three. Pescesky went the next 2 2/3-innings with four strikeouts.
Troy then used three pitchers in the final inning.
With the loss Troy’s season comes to a close, though, like the Majors group, they finish as one of the top six teams in District 15.
The other consolation game, Canton at Towanda, was postponed to Sunday, with a 4 p.m. start.
This group finally finished up pool play as Sayre lost to Montrose 24-14 on Saturday.
That sets up the bracket, with top seed RTL hosting Athens on Monday, while Sayre travels to Montrose. Both games are at 6 p.m.
Sayre defeated Susquehanna Area 7-5 to stay alive in consolation bracket action.
Sayre will now host Allegheny Mountain on Monday with a 6 p.m. start. The winner will take on the loser of Wellsboro-Athens.
