ATHENS — It wasn’t July 4th yet, but there were plenty of fireworks in the Athens-Troy game, as Athens was able to pull out a 17-10 win in consolation bracket action.
Troy led 3-2 after the first inning, but Athens out scored them 3-0 over the next two to take a 5-3 lead halfway through the game.
Troy would cut it to 6-5 after the fourth, but that’s as close as it got. Athens scored five in the fifth, and six in the sixth to pull away for the win.
Brody Ayres went 3-for-4 with 3-RBI, and two runs for Troy, as Lucas Kress was 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored, and 2-RBI.
Hunter Watson had a double with two runs scored, Jerrett Root had a double with an RBI, while Oakley Roberts also had a hit, with a run scored. Josiah Pescesky crossed home as well.

Troy then used three pitchers in the final inning.
