LITTLE LEAGUE: RTL 9-10-11 BASEBALL ROLLS PAST ATHENS (2021-07-05)

WYALUSING — RTL pounded out 21 hits as they defeated Athens 22-7 in three innings during the opening round of bracket play for 9-10-11 District 15 All-Star baseball on Monday.

Garrett Gowin went 4-for-4 with two runs, while Gage Tinna was a double short of the cycle - going 3-for-3 with a home run, a triple, and four runs scored.

Eli Tinna went 3-for-4 with a double, and two runs scored, with Cooper Alekema, Campbell Carr, and Brenden Wells each going 2-for-2, with a run scored.

Dillion Gonsauls went 3-for-3 with three runs scored in the number nine slot, as Isaac Tinna had two hits, with three runs.

Wiley Trobaugh had a hit with two runs, while Cameron Cole, and Greyson Vaow each had a hit with a run scored.

Landry Tinna chipped in with a run.

Eli Tinna got the win on the mound, striking out seven Athens batters.

RTL will now host second seed Montrose - who beat Sayre 33-3 - on Tuesday in the culmination of the winner’s bracket. Sayre and Athens will play each other in the consolation bracket.

If RTL can best Montrose again, they won’t play until July 10. If they fall, they will face the winner of Athens/Sayre on July 8.

In Majors baseball Athens routed Wellsboro 12-2 in winner’s bracket action, while Sayre stayed alive with a 3-0 victory over Allegheny Mountain in consolation bracket play.

Wellsboro will now face Sayre, with the winner getting a shot at Athens later in the week.
