LITTLE LEAGUE: TOWANDA FALLS TO ATHENS (2021-07-06)

ATHENS — Towanda’s All-star run in District 15 Minors baseball came to an end on Tuesday, as they lost to Athens 8-1.

It was a rain delay start, but that didn’t slow down Towanda, as they took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

Unfortunately, that was their only run, as Athens’ pitchers held them to two hits on the day. Athens would score two runs in the top of the third to go up 2-1, then added two more in the top of the fourth for a 4-1 advantage.

They scored four runs in the sixth to pull away.

Drew Maghamez, and Harper Welles had the two Towanda hits on the day, with Hudson Nash scoring their run.

Welles started for Towanda, and went 3 2/3-innings, with seven strikeouts. Maghamez went the next 1 2/3-innings to strikeout three batters, while Jackie Monhan pitched the final two-thirds of an inning.

Towanda might be done, but they finished in the top four in the district, a good showing after going 1-2 in pool play.
