AAU SOFTBALL: PRIDE CLAIM EYOTA CLASSIC GOLD BRACKET TITLE (2021-07-11)

Northern Tier Sports Report
APALACHIN, N.Y. — The BC Pride gutted out a semifinal win, then rolled in the final to claim the Inaugural Eyota Classic Gold Bracket title on Sunday.

The Pride won 4-2 over the CNY Monsters to advance to the championship game, where they defeated the Fury 12-0 in five innings.

In the semi the Monsters took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as the Pride got off to a slow start. They picked things up the second time through the order, as in the fourth they scored three runs to take the lead.

Both teams then notched a run in the sixth for the 4-2 final.

Mae Kinner had the big bat for the Pride, going 2-fo-2 with a double, and two runs scored, as Keri Wesneski, and Allyson Butcher each had a hit with a run. Thailey Franklin, and Rylin Graham each had a hit as well.

Franklin got the win in the circle, striking out three while allowing eight hits, and two earned runs.

Things weren’t as tight with the Fury as the Pride opened things up with three runs in the first inning. After a scoreless second, they scored three more in the third.

They were once again held scoreless in the fourth, but ended things in the fifth, with six runs, punctuated by a Julia Brown walk-off home run to get the mercy rule.

Brown finished with two hits - the home run plus a double - and scored one run, while Franklin was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Wesneski had a hit with three runs, while Brea Overpeck had a hit with two runs. Kayleigh Thoman, Butcher, Allie Liddick, and Rylin Graham each had a hit with a run scored. Kinner also had a hit in the game.

Franklin was nearly perfect in the game, not allowing a base runner until the top of the fifth. She struck out six, and allowed just the one hit.

The Pride will be back in action next weekend at the Keystone State Championships down at the Oak Hall Softball Park.
